Insurance for imported bikes

Hi guys,

I've bought a honda cg 125 2001 - Brazilian. I'm presuming this is a grey import? The insurance company initially asked if it was grey or parallel. I said grey. They said they wouldn't insure it along with my fazer on the same policy but then they said if I bought it in the UK is wasn't an import! So I took them at their word. The policy runs until next month so when I come to renew what should I ask be asking for? A multibike policy for my FZ6 and an grey import honda cg?

hi,
just go with whatever is on V5,
it will usually say if it was 1st registered overseas.
as far as i know the "brazilian" version of the cg125 was sold in uk anyway so if it doesnt mention it on v5, its not an "import".
insurance monkey is just reading from a screen & likely to know less than you as to what a "grey import" is.

For cars there could be some safety differences, requirements for passenger air bags, rear seat belts, etc. so I could see the argument there. Bikes though? I could only see the emissions being different Thinking

also power/restrictions.
as an example, i have a french tdr125 which puts out about 28bhp as standard due to having a working ypvs, whereas the uk versions were sold with 12bhp.
so my bike wouldnt be legal for someone on cbt.

The 'Brazilian' models were built in Brazil but still sold as a UK domestic model. There would be very little reason to grey-import a commuter 125 sold in the thousands in the UK, from Brazil.
