PSU fail - replace like-for-like or upgrade?

Dell Optiplex 760 tower (full-size), won't start. It flashes an orange power light and two of the front panel LEDs, which supposedly means either a mobo or PSU fault. I've run through the troubleshooting guide from the manual and have narrowed it down to a failed PSU.

PSU = Dell L305P-03, part # P192M. 305W, ATX-fit.

I have one SSD, one HDD, 2x optical drives and a USB/card reader. No graphics card.

I can find a used replacement which is all tested and certified, but for the same(ish) money I can find a more powerful new aftermarket replacement. What I don't know is whether any ATX form-factor PSU will plug and play? For example the two hard disks are in the opposite corner of the rather large case from the PSU - will cables on an alternative PSU reach? I assume all the other cables are standard?

It's an old PC running Windows 10 Home and doesn't get a lot of use - mostly web browsing and digital image storage, with a bit of manipulation. No gaming or anything else that's hard work. We suffer occasional power failures which I think has helped kill this PSU. The only thing of any value on it is the 10s of thousands of digital pictures on the 1TB HDD, but I assume these are safe, plus I have a relatively recent backup of this drive on an external HDD.

If it's a standard sized ATX one, just buy a new universal 450W PSU. I should imagine the cables should be long enough, unless your PC is an odd design.

If you aren't going to upgrade anything like graphics card ( and you've already lowered the power requirements with SSD) then i'd just fit like for like and not worry about the hassle of different cables.

Just make sure it is a branded PSU with decent reviews.

Doesn't need to be a 1kW all bells and whistles PSU.

If the cables for the HDDs don't stretch you can always get extensions.

Is it the full size tower or the small form factor model.

I've literally binned over 150 of this model.

Got the PSU yesterday and went to fit it. The good news is that it all works OK and the PC fired up on the button. The bad news is that I can’t bolt it up to the case because of how the power socket is fitted. I intend to modify the case with a Dremel unless anyone can offer any other advice.

This is aligned correctly - all four bolt holes line up behind the case and due to their pattern there's only one way it can bolt up, it's just the bezel on that power inlet that is preventing the PSU butting up to the case. On the OEM PSU the power inlet was in another location (and it had no on/off switch either).

Planning to "dremel the fucker" with copious cover and vacuum extraction to prevent swarf in the case. "Leave the fucker" isn't really an option as it needs to stand up as a tower and the PSU is at the top of the case. In the picture the case is lying down on its side to allow the access panel to be removed and the PSU fitted.
