The RAC want to charge me £159.99 next year. That seems a lot. Other options?

Autoaid Roadside & Recovery? Something else?

What do you get for that? Recovery? home start? Family membership?

If it's all those it's not a bad price. I just got a come back to us offer of £160 from the AA for the above mentioned.

If you travel overseas much you can get the German AA cover (can't recall exact name, maybe ADAC) - you get covered throughout Europe including UK where they send out guess who? The AA Wink

RAC have quoted my renewal this year at £136, last year was £106. That's for two named people rather than vehicle, roadside, home start, recovery to any location, and onward travel. That's £63 for the cover and £73 for "arrangement and administration fee". Will argue the toss, but will probably end up paying for it, since I've not found an equivalent that's close.

Tried doing it via your insurance?

To get stand-alone Euro cover for my VFR which is over 25 years old, you need to send them the deeds to your house and your firstborn son. To get Euro and UK recovery through my insurance for three bikes. One of which is over 25 years old and the other of which is heavily modified, was £68.

Or it is included as standard if you go with Carole Nash.

Worth factoring that into your calculations when you take out a policy.

We're in GEM the 'Guild of experienced motorists. '
It seems to win the Autoexpress award for breakdown services every year. I can't remember the price, but it's not an issue, by which I mean it's less than the AA or RAC .
It's still a members club and the terms and conditions are quite generous , bikes , cars , classics, motorhomes . The main condition seems to be No vans over 2500kg.
There is also a free magazine , the letters page of which makes the Express look leftwing. " surely we need legislation to stop pedestrians breathing, etc etc"

Discounted AA membership via AA car insurance which I cancelled as I changed vehicle.

Personal cover, covers any vehicle I'm in, think it's £40 for the year, that is national and home start.

I go with DTRS. (Dads Trailer Recovery Service). He's retired so picking me and the bike up would give him something to do.

This 100%.

Covers you and spouse in any vehicle under 2.5T mgw, although they confirmed my 3.0T mgw campervan is also OK. Covers bikes over 150cc from memory. Look into it, but the terms are simple.

You initially pay recovery then claim it back. I’ve had well over a grands worth back over the years, including a caravan and LWB Shogun from Devon to Kent which was over £700.

About £40 a year.

Nope, Ive used them 4 times in the last 3 years and never paid a penny out of my pocket apart from the renewal fee. It used to be as you say but they changed there terms and conditions.

stinkwheel Well I just had my hands up a pigs fanny. Which makes your concerns pale into insignificance.
