Your gp can advise or they can contact the surgeon/clinic That did the OP for advice.
The risk of complication is there so seek 'professional' advice from your physician.
Two or three months at a guess providing there's been no stress on the tissues involved during the healing phase.
Speaking for a lay person.

(Lay person not a ghey person you fuckers.)

Did they say you musn't lift more than a teabag for xx weeks?
Actually riding is not that different to sitting but if you have to heave it about to park it might be like that scene in Alien

It's sort of like sitting.
But there's a bit of hydrostatic load/pressure to consider.
We ignore it when we've been riding bikes for a while but new tissue might need TLC.

Ive had two hearnias before. That was before i got into riding bikes. Car driving was ok after about two weeks but yeah the heaving a bike about bit concernes me. The hospital was advising no heavy lifting for six weeks and described heavy as meaning shopping bag weight.

You know your body better than anyone else.
If you have the slightest concern, don’t do it.

Oh! And seek your doctor’s advice Thumbs Up

Doctors are fucking unhelpful when it comes to motorbikes.

They'll give you a facetious answer like "Never would be soon enough for me." (that is a direct quite from the orthopaedic registrar who wa schecking my wrist x-rays after I got the cast off).

Ask about something else that is percieved as healthy that has a similar level of bounce/movement. Moutain biking or kayaking or something.

I was told 6 weeks.
It's a proper operation so give your body time to heal but don't lozz about.

I'm relatively fit and the op I had was the belt n braces jobbie. Layer of gauze done under general.

I did get on the bike after a month but soon realised I was getting twinges of pain. It's a sports tourer so the position wasn't as relaxed as say a commuter bike.

Tried again after bit. I think about 10 days. All good.

That was a decade ago,. When I occasionally do a full days ride I still feel a twinge of discomfort.

What I find strange is to this day I don't know what caused the hernia in the first place.

I was signed off work for 4 weeks but after 2 weeks I locked myself out of the house and climbed up a drainpipe onto the porch roof and in through a first floor bedroom window. I seem to recall it pulled a bit at the time but no lasting effects.

Six weeks, pfft, man up, you should be good to go a week before Christmas, you've got all that Christmas shopping to get done and it's a piece of piss booking yourself in for another op in the new year...

Just to add:

Crystals, they can prove rather comforting if you choose the correct harmonic for your psyche.

And don't forget to burn a few sticks of incest to create a charming ambience.

Also prayer works quite well (as noted by Ste.)

I wouldn't bother too much with Homeopathetics, right now those folks are busy treating labour and LibDem voters.

I've managed over recent years to reduce my manliness to the point where I have all my Christmas shopping done by at least the first week in December. Laughing

I had hernia surgery a year ago, I was able to ride back to work after 2 weeks without any issue. As long as you don't do any moves that are intense on your core muscles you should be fine Thumbs Up

Now imagine if, and we all get to that point every now and then, you have to use your muscles to prevent dropping the bike. Especially when parking the motorcycle in a tight space.
