Just a bit of amusement.

What’s the silliest price you have seen a seller asking for a bike/pile of junk?

I’ll start Smile , I give you this!

Not the sellers fault. Its Ebay and the desperation of people not to get out bid etc. Also its an old two stroke, and some nostalgic fool will pay that for a project of THE bike they want to own. Ebay never finds the true value of things. You could pick that bike up from a shed clearance or junk pile for a few £££ at the most.

It's no different to old MX bikes. If you buy them in the paddock from a fellow racer you'll pay a realistic price. Wait for it to be polished and stuck on Ebay by a non MX rider then it'll be the only clean one left in the world and apparently priceless.

I've seen bikes from that dealer before. They are based in the former Top Gear hanger at Dunsfold which is why they have that background. That's the cool wall I think. They seem to generally be overpriced.

I quite like that CZ. Are they reliable or is it still around because it never ran?
That BMW though. What on Earth are people thinking? So many bad things about it.

Was going to link in to that Tron Motorcycle that was always sat on eBay but it's not there. Surely no-one bought it?

If it says "barn find", it's not possible to overprice it.

I believe those 1980s R80s are cheap in eastern Europe, so this one was probably a bid for the hipster pound, right from the start. Probably a knackered old bike that was brought and re-registered here, then the entire subframe hacked away (how safe is that seat?), illegal lights, number plate position and exhausts fitted to bring it to the attention of plod. I reckon nobody seriously built that thing to ride it. It's just fishing for a big fish in the Ebay ocean... I'm building my own oddball bitsa at the moment, and it's going to be all legal as it's just for me. If I were tempted by the hipster pound, it wouldn't be...

Unfortunately, this has consequences for the market for parts on Ebay. Tanks, for instance. Sellers seem to think they're made of gold.

That's funny because it has appeared in Practical Sportsbikes a couple of times under a little heading that says something like "Man tries to sell us bike worth £800 for £15000". Apparently he built it then immediately put it on display at the Bike Shed with that price tag on it. He'll be waiting a long time.

Although when I was visiting the local dyno place recently a guy turned up on a BMW R80 I think it was. Similar kind of thing... it had a brown leather seat and a polished tank with a 59 or whatever on the tank. He'd just collected it from having the engine rebuilt. Apparently he paid £5000 for it, and then bodged doing an oil change of all things, so it killed itself in short order. There's no allowing for stupidity!!

This CX from Naked Greed is a mere £10,000

I think I'd have more fun on the wee Honda behind it

So many things wrong with that CX build. I'm sure the builder must also be cynical about his target market. Sick

They are reliable in a ' fix it with a hammer' sort of way, so not actually relaible , but fixable at the side of the road. The design is based on the DKW designs reparated from the master race after the last lot , the same as the BSA Bantam and Harley Davidson 125 ( you think I'm joking don't you) also same roots as the MZ's. Utilitarian biking for the socialist masses. This is an attempt to sell a few in the west in the seventies trail bike craze , on their MX credentials . My mates Dad had one ( my mate bent the forks on it too)

Absolutely right. The most important thing is to declare all mods to the insurance company. I enjoy seeing tasteful (if not strictly lawful) modified bikes at bike shows. At the end of the day, that bike is a late enough model to be caught out by C&U regs on a few counts, but the consequence is probably just a fine. It could end up being an annoyance, though, if you have a busybody neighbour who doesn't like you and a cop with nothing better to do. If anyone ever buys that R80, they probably won't commute on it to a place of work (e.g. a school where there are snotty teachers, governors and parents). Those exposed bellmouth carb intakes would be interesting if it were ever ridden in the rain... It's more a fantasy fulfilment sort of thing. A bit like a media/TV type affecting a working class accent - it's tolerated in most places most of the time even though everyone knows it's iffy, but not everywhere all the time.

I had a CZ 125 many moons ago.
Once I put aftermarket clutch plates in to replace the nasty originals and the same with the plug, points, and condenser, it was reliable yes.
The original tyres were fecking scary in the wet, but I doubt you’ll find one today still with the original tyres.

Mine never let me down other than the points closing up now and then.

Easy to work on because there’s not much to it.

Of all those 'modernised' bikes we see listed on the bay of evil that should fly through an MOT, I've only actually seen one being ridden on the public highway up here.
Not sure if anyone spotted the seller of the R80s username = karshinvest. Most likely pushing an almost unusable motorcycle as some sort of investment and not meant for riding?

Being shown interesting machines on here (CZ etc) is fueling my yearning for another bike. Would love a Street Triple but would also settle quite happily for a CZ like that or a TY175 or a..

As much as I like CZ’s for some strange reason, I’ll bet the Yam TY175 would be a better bet.

So if I fit an entirely inappropriate silencer to my DT build can I call it "custom" and charge an extra bag? Thinking

On ebay, yes. People are so stupid. I've seen bidding wars go higher on second hand things than they cost new.

I'm sure some dumb twats think 'It's on ebay, it must be a good deal'. Brick Wall

You forgot the shitty hacking off of the rear subframe with more luck than skill, adding a mild steel hoop of dubious quality with no bracing, and putting a shitty bron leather seat on it.

- Buy shed
- Spend 4k on parts
- List on ebay for 9k
- Claim the wife needs a new kitchen, but also not in a rush to sell
- Add L@@k, rare, barn find, project to the title
- Hope some poor unsuspecting mug buys it

This is why I ended up with the CB250 as the winter rat ... the prices for anything remotely dirt-bike were just plain silly ...

If anyone actually buys these horrors ... maybe they buy gold-plated power cords (yes, cords! mostly over there) ...?
