Speak to Ste, he had one, and the gearbox broke! Shocked

I think that he lost a tooth off of second and it rattled around and killed the rest of the 'box. I have a feeling this might have been because the previous owner was crap at wheelies! Smile

Yup, had a TL1000R and it had a very very smooth gearbox, too smooth in fact. Laughing

They don't have the handling problems that the TL1000S is known for (and those problems were mostly sorted with a steering damper and a different rear shock), they do have gearbox problems and is quite likely to need rebuilding but it depends on how it has been used as to when it will need doing.

www.thumperzone.com is a UK TL website and forum .Thumbs Up

The frames have a tendency to crack. Suzuki admit to 10%, but for some reason seem to buy them up & destroy them at an alarming rate (somewhere in the region of 50%.). Mate of mine had his frame replaced under warranty 3 times in the first 12 months & finally Suzuki bought it & destroyed it. Ditto 3 other guys I know who took the *buy out* option over the frame replacement...
There was also the deal with the swing arm snapping in half...

The TL1000S had frame problems not the TL1000R.

Bloke I know is on his second. On this one he changed the forks and did a straight swap with a gsxr1000 set.
He says it's really sorted the bike.

He is an instructor at the Nurburg ring and there aint much bike wise to compete with him.

I'm sure it only affects the TLS, it happened to my sisters where the rotary damper mounts to the frame. The TLR is a completely different frame, and afaik frame design doesn't change from one country to the other Eh?

I can't comment on TLRs, but the TLS handled like a bit of a bus, slow steering and wallowy, the TLR can only be an improvement. Plus I think the TLRs look really good, big and bulky but it suits them, shame the Hayabusa doesn't look the same.

Mates TLR went thru 3 frames in rather quick fashion & then Suxuki bought it back for a wad of cash allowing him to go buy a brand new Valkerie & still have a bit left over...

And I once overtook an R1 on my battered old NSR125 on a twisty road - that doesn't mean the NSR is a better bike, just that at that point in time I was riding faster than Mr R1. Rolling Eyes
