Or do we?
'Sticky badges' may be more precise

I saw this guy use his cnc as a vinyl cutter on Youtube and fancied having a go
so I bought the Roland plotter type drag knife and 15 blades for a mere £7.39
and knocked up a holder from scrap bits of plywood to fit in the 52mm spindle housing.
I also bought an A3 cutting mat and a pack of A4 sheets of various coloured sticky backed vinyl.

The drag knife:

I still have to experiment with knife pressure, feed speeds and off sets but was impatient to see how it worked
so grabbed few vectors to try it out prepared for the usual balls ups you get on any learning curve.
I popped a collet nut on the knife give it some small pressure, not sure how much is the norm as yet.

For a first impatient attempt its not the messy disaster it could have been
and I just used a line following profile cutting path with no offsets at 0.2mm depth
The corners and edges were much better than I expected.

I did have to cut twice a couple of times and wondering if a hard base would better than a cutting mat
so further experiments needed here.
On the plus side, the second cuts followed the first with no discernable twin tracks.
'weeding' out the unwanted bits is fiddly and for me, definitely a 'glasses on, stay calm, take your time' job
as I pulled off and wrinkled a few bits in my cack handed ness.

All in all I'm quite happy and reckon it's a project with potential.

I would imagine it's like anything else: approach the work considering the tools and the medium.

First time I had a go at 3D printing was a bit of an eye-opener - realising that no, you can't start printing in mid-air Smile

All you have to do now is get the stickers off the backing and onto the item...

But you've thought of how to do that right?

Transfer tape on the shopping list for when/if I have
something I actually want to stick on summat.
Just experimenting/testing/refining the process at the mo and
want to see how good it performs for thicker stuff like
stencils, masks ( might do a Banksy on me tank)
& gaskets

I bet that setup would go through stencil paper like it was butter.
