Hi im 16 i ride a 50cc twist and go and yes admittly it is derestricted.
i went to met some mates from school never really hang with them much cos there idiot ped boys theres 3 of them all my age i got to there house to find a RS and 2 cagiva mitos..
lovely bikes.
didnt really look much at them then we decided to go for a ride at traffic lights i went trough as they changed from yellow to red my mates waited i got on to the A20 and opened it up to the max 45mph (zzzzz) been riding about 5mins when i see my mates in my mirriors, they then fly past me we pull over at a cafe abit througher up road and i say jeeeez there quick 50s only to find out the mitos are 125s and the rs is a 125 with a 180 kit on it or somthing..
its not fair how people will break the law i mean i want to go fast like that but why should i wait when others dont and sods law is they wont crash or ever get found out..
then to cap this all off on my way back my thrattl cable snapped leaving me to push my bike 3miles home...
im angry lol.
and now im almost wishing my mates will get pulled over or somthing just becuase im jealous hehe..
them mitos are lovley i heard they do a 50 is tht true??

Trust me mate, it is not worth doing what they are doing, as you are so close to 17, imagine you bought a mito today and went out tonight and crashed severly injuring/killing someone, you would never pay off the money you would owe due to having no insurance, also it is not worth it as imagine you had your license banned being so close to a decent bike.

But then again you are not legal at the moment and what you are doing is just as illegal as what they are doing.

Hope that helps.

You're just as bad as they are, you're not licensed to ride your ped and thus not insured. You're license is just as valid for you to ride a ZX10R as it is a de-restricted ped. Hypocrite. Thumbs Down

Hope that's a Thumbs Down for the hypocrisy, rather than the not riding a bike suited to your licence Smile.

The probabilty is that he would get a lot less severely done and I reckon the insurance would cover him.

Look at it this way... when out riding they are going to have to be pushing it much less than you to get anywhere near the same speed, so you are probably getting better experience at riding fast.
(though how much this applies to a twist'n'go I don't know.

Personally I wouldn't worry much about the chance of them finding out, never heard of anyone being done for riding a ped which is derestricted.

Zak, how does pointing that he also isn't technically licensed or insured make me a hypocrite?

Yup it was a Thumbs Down for the hypocrisy G.

Personally I think 50cc peds are dangerous, they can't keep up with the traffic, lets face it, how many cars actually stick to the 30mph limit? I think 4stroke 125's would be better.

I ride a (perfectly legal) 125... and have been really peed off recently by some guys at college who are supposed to be on 50s riding RS125. I waited, why can't they?

I just pass comment about one small aspect (broken indicators, no protective gear) every time I see them.

I also remember that I'll have a 250 or 400 in a few months anyway...

yer annoying isnt it craggles hehe.
did u have a derestricted moped??
i think there is a great differnce between ruiding a derestred ped and riding somthing tht puts out 75% more cc than you allowed hehe..
i look forward to the day i turn 17 and get a bigger bike..

Because they're nasty little scally shits who care about neither the law, nor safety?

The coppers can't stop most of these hooligans because how do you identify one, from a perfectly legitimate rider? And if they do get caught, what do they get? Seeing as how they have no qualms about riding without insurance, and many of them go even further, a ban will not stop them. I've seen a couple of ped riders who don't even look anywhere near 16 - They're already riding without any license whatsoever, so how does getting banned change anything for them?

It's the justice system that's created a situation where significant law breaking amongst this age group is now totally out of control! I just feel sorry for normal 16yr olds, who are going to get lumped in with the chavs by other road users...

Don't worry steve, your mates are just asking for it. I'm 16 and ride a restricted 50 and its well slow. My mate on the other hand has a de-restricted Peugeot Speedfight with a technigas pipe and its flys. Its so quick, I'm really jealous because when we are riding, he zooms off while I'm shifting through gears struggling to get to 40mph! I guess I've just got to live with it for the time being. He's nearly 17 now, so he will be riding legally. If your nearly 17, I would wait. When your 17, you can get a bike that can compete with your mate's. Then you can see how goes fast. I have to wait til next August before I'm 17, so I have a long way to go. Oh well, just wait til I get my hands on a Yamaha RD125LC!

Oh yeah. I like the RD's. My dad has had a few and he built a RD125LC once. Took it to bits, serviced parts etc, then put it back together. it looked really nice. He currently has an RD350LC in bits. I'm waiting for him to build it because I want a go!
Don't worry about it. I'm currently going through what you are going through so I like to give advice and be given advice. I hate riding at 35mph all the time!

I can't see the point of writing a big long thread discussing the hazards of riding an illegally derestricted bike, all the while stating that you and most people you know ride derestricted bikes, and then complaining when someone you don't know admits to riding a derestricted bike

IMO, anything 125 or below shouldn't even be restricted. They're not powerful enough to warrant it. I don't think there are many people here that ride restricted 50's, 125's etc out of choice.

Steve09, The rules affect everyone the same. The reason they're faster than you is because they're willing to break them.

No - I didn't want to break the law, and felt that 30mph was dangerous on most roads I would want to use, I waited till I was 17 to get a 125, which can keep up with some traffic - however not as much as I would have liked (shall be getting something capable of NSL without falling apart as soon as I've passed my test)

A chap rode up to join my DAS course today riding a Thundercat 600cc, on a cbt. How F***ing cheeky is that? Certainly beats 'ped boys riding around on bored out 125s! Scary thing is, his riding is appalling!
