sorry to dig up an old thread, but I have decided that when the quarantine comes (which it will) I will actually do 30 press ups per day, as I will not be moving around that much (a walk from my bed to the sofa is obviously not proper exercise)

I suspect that this will be a home trend, as everyone else will be in the same boat (but not Polarbears boat, I am sure he will won't like strangers with him Wink )

Was thinking just for a quarantine challenge to see if anyone here can beat 30 press ups in a day

It's supposed to be one of those long-running threads, for the whole year.

I got up to about 160 press ups in a day (sets of 30), but then figured out a way to do bench presses and a load of other stuff at home, so press ups take second place now for pecs and triceps.

Day before yesterday I managed 220 squats (with as much weight as I can cobble together with my improvised 'equipment') in three sets. Today, my thighs are still killing me Laughing

Best cardio I've got is running up and down the stairs, again in sets (chickenstrip's improvised home HIIT Smile ).

Nothing to stop anyone going for walks if they keep their distance from others, and there are shit-loads of home, no-equipment workout vids on Youtube if you want to get more serious about it all.

On a work day I will start my day with 20 minutes of yoga, stretches, exercises, and (3 minute HIIT) lunges, squats etc. Then I will try and beat 5,000 steps on the pedometer throughout the work day.

However, since I am on 'holiday' (but not abroad), and I am run-down and my shoulder / neck is aching like a b*tch due to the last few months of being over-worked (college assignments / exams, patient caseloads and driving); and this virus enforced social distancing...I am doing the absolute opposite. I am not working out, I am not walking anywhere, I'm having long lie-ins, I'm browsing the internet all day and I am pigging out on all the snacks and biscuits and goodies I bought myself for the week.

I did think I might go for a walk today...but it won't happen now. I'm all snuggly and I'm yawning... Mr. Green

Does sound like you need a bit of a break, but I would try to not make it too much of a habit. These restrictions could be in place for quite some time to come.

I find that working out lifts my spirits immensely - couldn't be without it all at the moment, although I have scaled back a little, since I can't be sure of a good supporting diet at the moment, what with the supermarket shelves so empty. I hope that situation will ease soon!

As I'm a healthcare worker - I'll be right back out there at work after this 'holiday' so it is only a week off my daily routines. Although I doubt I'll leave it a week before I start back on my shoulder strengthening exercises...I'll need to be tip top when I get back to working with my patients. Thumbs Up

Well, as I said, I did it in sets of 30, and not all in one session. I started with all this a bit under 2 years ago now, and when I started, I was doing push-ups with my hands on the edge of the kitchen surface, feet about 3 or 4 feet behind me. Just worked up from there. I couldn't have started with proper push-ups because my dodgy arm and shoulder wouldn't have taken it back then, but now can cope with that and much more, although much of the effort is still taken on the other arm.

Okay, as predicted I am now officially back on it. I did my stretches for a lot longer today 'because excessive time'. And I have now speed walked the cemetary loop and a half which I meandered around yesterday.

As my other housemate is not taking his hourly walk, I thought I might use it myself a little later...because it seems a bit of a waste. Mr. Green

Really starting to click with this mind/muscle connection thing now. With a number of exercises I've been doing, although I took them as far as I could manage each time, I wasn't really feeling it in the relevant muscle sets afterwards, specifically biceps and triceps. So I went lighter with biceps curl weight, and learned how to do the things properly. Now feel it after a session.

And I've figured a workout that really targets the long head of the triceps, and feel it a lot each time now (wasn't feeling it there with bench presses and bench dips so much, although I'll keep those in the repertoire of course). Funny how you get hooked on this business, even if you are a cripple Laughing

Maybe this should go in the ‘Grind My Gears’ thread?

I/we have just started training again over the last three weeks.
All under very strict conditions of course.

Lots of bag work and cardio Shocked .
Puffing and blowing like a asthmatic elephant, but at least I am trying, and the heart has certainly been beating a lot harder & faster.
It’s amazing how quickly you lose what fitness you have when you don’t exercise much.

I/we were just getting back into the swing of things and all this lockdown shite starts again Evil or Very Mad

Fugging bolllox! Middle Finger .

Never mind, back to sticking my snout back in the fridge to see what there is to eat whilst I sit on the settee watching daytime television Crying or Very sad
When I finally move house, I’m going to buy a pushbike.
Knowing my luck, there’ll be a rule of no traveling, including on a pushbike.

Try setting up the bike facing the fridge but on the opposite side of the room, and set the rule that you have to cycle to it Idea Laughing

this year has been shit for excercising

I rarely cycle much more than a 100 miles a week since the start of lockdown the 1st time around

furthest distance I've run is a half marathon solo, it's not the same, I cant get motivate to do a "virtual" run,

no running club since lockdown, cycle club tried, but the covid compliant rules were too off putting

it's all a bit meh

Tuesday is the last training session until this new lockdown nonsense is lifted Sad .
So my new fitness plan will be long walks.
Then once I’ve got the measure of that, brisk/faster walks until I’m doing a little bit of a jog Shocked .
Pepperami and running are very alien to each other Hand .
I WILL have to push myself motivation wise to do this.

The settee and the fridge & daytime tv are an easy trap to fall into.

Note to self : “get up fatty and turn that telly off”.

I've been training very hard, but what have I got to show for it? A possible hernia, and a few pulled muscles. I have lost weight and have definitely built up some muscle - so hopefully the hernia thing is not serious and the muscles recover soon. At least it has only stopped specific exercises and not my whole training.

I got out for a short run, shops and back to try the new shoes. 11.6km total and very happy. First, no return of past injuries. Shoes are comfy, I had my doubts about dropping half a size, and they are just right for warmth. I can see myself squeezing in several 15-20km runs a week anf loosing 13kg in no time with a better diet.

I would pay good money to solve a niggle. As with every other non injured run, both of my vastus medialis burn!. I have always over used this muscle and Im certain it will lead to injury on longer runs.

Yesterday was the last training session before this new lockdown.
We all made an extra effort.
An hour and a half at a fairly intense rate!
Lot of aches and pains today Shocked but I don’t think I broke anything or stretched anything to far Thumbs Up

Today I'd achived the mobility of somone 3x my age, so I went for another 10k run. Quads are really burning now, more than I ever remember. Very happy, no knee impingement, shoes doing the job. Nice temperature for a run.

I clicked the strava run climb, distance, and half marathon challenges. I will try HM distance next week when the doms is gone.
