The aftermarket grips on the FZ1 were slipping badly, so today I pulled one off.
Now what do you think they were fixed in place with? Superglue? Gorilla glue maybe? Nope, plumbers tape! The stuff you wind around threaded pipe unions. Words fail me.

You might want to remove them in future, so I don't really see a massive problem. I used hairspray and a dash of superglue on mine.

Proper grip glue I got with my heated grips for the busa sticks and if you want to unstick it you just heat it up with a hairdrier.

I'm with Andy on this. The last thing you want is the throttle grip slipping at an inopportune moment. Tape is a stupid idea.

Held in place with Teflon tape eh? I wonder why they were slipping. Laughing

Probably someone along the line getting bored of the heated grips melting the glue causing slippage and managed to find a bodge that worked for them.

I don't like the glue that the oxford grips come with. I found out the hard way many miles away from home what a throttle grip twisting independently of the throttle tube feels like: what a dodgy ride and a waste of a very sunny day that was.

Gorilla glue gets my vote.

I like to do a bodge from time to time, part of the fun of owning a bike... not sure I'd be comfortable selling one on with something like that. Neutral

I couldn't see a trace of old glue anywhere.
