The pass remains company property and there's no chance I can cut it up, and I don't want to lose it as I have to pay £5 for a new one.

One of mine "was around my neck on the lanyard and it was pulled into the paper shredder". No replacement charge.

That's a Non-Injury Event (NIE). Oh, the paperwork, the meetings!

In contrast I have trouble leaving the work site when I'm aboard the R1. It doesn't trigger the sensor buried in the tarmac, whereas the Kawasaki will. I have the same trouble at the traffic lights exiting IWM Duxford. If no car joins behind me I have to jump the lights. I can only assume there's not enough iron low down on the Yamaha.

I have this problem on my ZZR too. I’m not sure I can even remember leaving the works car park through a green light, I seem to have to bust them constantly. I’m expecting one of the security guards to chomp at me but they’re either too busy eating donuts or have cottoned on why I do it every time (other than just impatience)!
If you can see the saw cuts for the buried loop try putting your bike over one of the corners or one side only so you are covering part of three lines at the same time. They are more sensitive at this location.

Also it is worth speaking to the people running the building as I understand the sensitivity can turned up on some systems. One of my buildings had the settings tweaked to pick up cyclists and then they marked the best part of the loop for them with yellow paint so the barrier would lift for them.

The parent company I work for has had something like 43 deaths of employees worldwide last year. However, the subsidiary and the primary client, and the owner of the building is extraordinarily health and safety conscious...

Plus my actual passes are held in a hardened holder that would probably destroy the shredder...

It's not the sort of organisation to a) waive a fee for a new pass or b) the sort of organisation to 'turn up the sensitivity' on the gate for lil' ol' me or my motorcycling colleagues.

The process I had to go through to get permission to use the car park in the first place was... laborious.

I'm going to try it out next time I ride to that office, and I'm going to try keeping the card in my pocket. If that's too much of a faff I'm going to get one of those security/ski pass type holders and strap it to my right forearm.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
