I have Tuneboy Cruise and Tune for my 2010 Multistrada. I have held off installing it worried about issues. Turns out I was right to worry. I installed the software and the first time you run it you have to do multiple steps to get the final Key that registers your ECU serial number and allows the software to make changes. That all sounds fine except the very first step in the process erases Flash. Then you restart the software and enter the username and password Tuneboy provided and click a Generate Key button. Unfortunately, even though the computer is on the network and can navigate to any other website I choose, I get a message back relatively quickly saying "Key Generation (not responding)". Also unfortunately, clearing the flash has made it so the bike will start and rev for a second or so and dies.

I cannot find anything addressing this issue in all my searching. The only thing that sounded possible was a recommendation to run the program as administrator, which changed nothing. I have sent an email to Tuneboy support, but almost all the posts regarding Tuneboy say it takes quite a while to get a response from them. I am wondering/hoping that someone else had this problem and got around it.

Any takers?

Bob Nelson

Addendum: I am a computer person by trade and also a gamer, so that should deal with some of the comments. The software itself is straight forward. Besides providing the ability to make backup copies of the ecu, it provides the default factory image and then some with other capabilities like adding cruise control managed by the ecu. It also allows maps for specific tuning. There is nothing inherently wrong with the software except that before you get to a point where you can load a new image or refresh the old one, it clears everything. And then in this instance it cannot connect to generate the key for some reason. While I was trying to take a nap I realized that since this is my work laptop, the firewall could be blocking it. But I stopped it, disabled it and rebooted the laptop and still have the same issue. I do realize that it is possible that I will have to take it to a dealer to have them fix it. But maybe it is possible for the vendor to manually generate the key and email it to me so I can enter it myself. We shall see if/when I get a response.

Addendum 2: I apparently am an idiot since I cannot figure out how to add a reply to this email since when I click the post reply at the bottom of the screen it seems to open a new message window with a blank subject line. Anyway, I got the answer when Tuneboy replied to my email. The activation program had their ipaddress hard coded in it. In December their ISP changed their ipaddress so I needed a newer version of the program. Their website didn't mention that and since I received the one I was using three months ago I didn't suspect that. With the new program the Key Generation replied with my new key in about 5 seconds. I was very happy yesterday when I got that. So for the real replieds here and not the people just being a pain in the butt, thanks for the replies!

Bob

Have I got this right?

You plugged in a computer to play with your bikes ECU when you didn't know what you were doing?

Silly boy.

And sorry, no. I have no idea how that sh1t works.

So, you cant flash yer ECU

Sounds like the driver is trying to hook a function by patching the system call table,
it's not safe to unload that unless another thread's about to jump in there and do its stuff, and ending up in the middle of invalid memory.

Have you tried turning it off and back on again

So it's wiped your ecu maps clean and not loaded a new one, this sort of thing is always a risk, I think a trip to the dealer for an official flash might be your best answer.

I thought Skyrim and such were for people who don't know the pleasures of riding motorbikes.. Oh wait, you're talking about a bike. Confused

Sounds like a software problem and, since it's completely disabled your bike, you have nothing to lose by trying anything you can to restore the previous state of the ECU. Try a Ducati forum, play with diagnostic software, someone else's backup, etc. Just Googled it and there are lots of image files on the internet. Who knows, maybe one of them will work. If not, I think you might have to take it to a Ducati dealer and get them to restore it for you. Isn't the world of computers exciting, eh. But I prefer bikes. Twisted Evil

It's a free rip off of Tuneboy.

I have the windows version of that and used it on my '02 Triumph. Works really well and caused me no problems. You can completely remap the engine, but unless you know what you're doing and have a dyno to hand probably better to just load factory maps.
It is useful for some service diagnostics, you can activate things like the fan via the ecu and get sensor readings. Pretty cool considering it's freeware.
