As others have said Henry's are the tits. The amount of rubble that mine has sucked up is unreal. Laughing

Henry (although mine is a James I got for 4 quid at local auction..) plus a Wickes wet/dry I had for yonks. Not long ago sucked up about 50 gall of water from my old house cellar during a rabid storm..

Another vote for Henry ... bought one recently after finally losing my rag with the bag(less)-o-shite Dyson and kicking it to death. Ours is the Henry Plus which has a bit more oomph.

Have an old AquaVac 3000 in the garage and that's pretty good too.

Housework on a bikers forum.
Its a sign of the times Jack.

I work in offshore oil industry. We used to be the offshore tigers.
Nowadays its all 'what kind of moisturizer do you use' or check out my new CK boxers' or 'this Trail Mix is so yummy' .
Poofs.

Anyway the hoover recommendations will be handy (my wife's birthday present of course).

I ordered a new Dyson to work and half the office (of guys) came over to have a gander and talk about what hoover they had Laughing

I'd definitely say some kind of Henry is the best choice. I've got a Charles which does water too and it's come in handy for cleaning carpets and cars.

I find it a bit of a hassle to move around the house though so I've bought a cordless dyson which is awesome to quickly hoover a few rooms but doesn't have half the power the Charles does.

So, what brand of ironing board do you chaps use???

And is it wrong to fit one of these?

Ironing on the other hand is a bore fest. I haven't owned an iron for over a decade. Just a good shake and fold the laundry as it comes out the dryer and it's fine.

I don't wear shirts (or blouses) though. Guess they'd be ok Iron free too.

I bought an iron 11 years ago and it's still brand new unused. For my clothes I simply tumble dry and fold things neatly when warm. It works.
Not a single person has told me my shirt looks creased etc. Mind you, they wouldn't dare!

Apologies for the delayed update on this - in the end I bought a Titan from Screwfix. This one:

https://www.screwfix.com/p/titan-ttb430vac-1400w-30ltr-wet-dry-vacuum-cleaner-240v/70472

Aside from a few niggles I'm very impressed with it. Large capacity, reasonably light to carry. Best bit though is the suction - much much better than what it replaced.
Carpet head seems flimsy and instruction book was both vague and tiny.
Was a decent purchase for the money.

That's cheap as chips.

What's it like with water? I might get one to use to suck out any standing water in the engineroom rather than the chucking nappys down there to soak it up.

Should be fine with water - I tried it on my living room carpet and it raised said carpet off the floor boards. Literally lifted it a foot above! Loads of suction despite it replacing a like for like wattage vacuum cleaner.
Obviously filters need removing and other gubbins put into their place but it'll work well at it. I've not tested this on water yet so can't say it's water tight.
