I brought these gloves and fitted it to the bike. I made sure to connect the cables to the correct terminals on the battery. I usually wait a good 20 to 30 minutes before turning on the gloves but they don't heat up. The gloves require a 2 amp fuse. I have a 5 amp installed.

Can anyone suggest what might have gone wrong?

Are they new? If so contact the manufacturer
S/h,are you sure that they were working before?
Go over the instructions again and check the wiring

20-30 minutes?
why?
I wouldn't bother waiting very long, they shouldn't take too much current.
Dont over rate the fuse, it wont help.

Heaters are basically resistors and easily checked with a meter.
The fault will due to connections, the switch/controller or the elements themselves.

Thanks for this post.

In the manual for the XR it states over short distances the batteries (which aren't supplied) are more appropriate. Whereas the cables are designed for journeys of a few hours long.

The Gerbung website doesn't have a contact telephone number.

I suspect you're right about the switch/controller and I'll check it over the weekend.

So over a shorter distance, which many people will use them for, you have to give them even more money for optional extras? That's what they're saying? Interestingly, their website also says:

Quote:
Due to the shorter style of this glove it is unsuitable for use with portable batteries.

Functionally I see little reason for waiting to switch them on. Yes, the battery needs to recharge the starting energy and using heated kit will increase the load on the alternator, but there should still be enough to go around.

On your specific issue, have you triple-checked all the connections and fuses? If you have a multimeter you could always probe for continuity and voltage at the various connectors.

I have the XRL connected via battery to either the BMW or Honda. It says on the site that they draw 2.2A so i use a 3 amp fuse. They literally start to get warm within seconds of me turning the bike on (even the little Honda). Sounds like something is wrong with yours - either that or the bikes charging system can't cope.
