Hi,
The quest continues for a replacement bike, I test rode a 69 CB500F last week, it had 88 miles on it with crash bars, when I got there I could see it had been dropped by little marks on exhaust and bars, thought sod it and went for a spin got a hundred yards and realized the bars were bent to the right, took it back and told them,oh its not been through the workshop yet......
Anyway it was buzzing like shit with vibes coming through the seat and bars and pegs, i dont remember my old one doing that it just had a bit of bar vibe, so walked away after they tried to sell me a new one at full price.
So ive seen this one, BMW F800R 2017 £5397, 2549 miles, does any any have or owned one, any thoughts, it is a bit over budget but looks quite nice, mega vibey, shit build?.

Thanks
Mark

For my money any twin will be vibee..
Some twins have balanced shafts to tone it down but it's a characteristic.
I was using opposed twins for about four+ years then went to inline 4s. The difference is night and day.
Heavy Bar End Weights help to reduce the vibrations the bars amplify. Some cnuts fit 'Trendy' bar ends that are too light so vibration through the bars is raw.
All engines reach a speed/load where everything is in harmony sweet spot. Find that at your cruising speed and and any vibrations may not be too much of a thing.

Thanks, I have thought of an IL4 but I have a steep driveway so weight might be a problem backing it out and under window to the go forward and down.
Reliability and comfort are most important and something thats not going to rust away.

Did not Rogerborg have one? His Nazi Tractor? Or was that the Adventure version rather than the street one.

Anyway, from what I remember he was pretty complimentary about it.

For that money though I'd be after a Stripple or an MT09 and neither of them are vibey.

For that kind of money I'd be looking at a used Tracer 700 (in fact I am), although debating whether the 900 is a better bet if I stretch my money/accept a higher mileage bikes. Bit of a fairing will be much better for the commute.

I like twins so am used to vibes so cant comment on whether you'll find a twin an issue, I'd suggest getting a test ride. Have to agree with the last post regarding a street triple as a good idea as I loved mine, hence looking at Tracers due to added practicality with a triple engine. Regarding rusting away, I have a Suzuki which are supposedly rust magnets compared to other Jap bikes which I keep outside under cover. Ensuring you keep almost any bike clean and lubricated, use ACF-50 in winter and it will be fine.

Also, whoever that dealer is you visited I would say avoid and go elsewhere.

F800r was fun. Rode for a fair bit doing all sorts of riding. Now I have a 790 duke to compare it to, it's like an mt07 or an er6 or sv650. It's good at what it does, but, the class leader smashes them all. The 790 is as good, if not better than a striple. And, I'll meet any striple rider on here and compare. £ for £ the duke 790 is amazing. As a first bike, scratcher, commuter or tourer it's way more fun than it cost.

BMW employ a cheap painting process which permits corrosive solutions to migrate between the casings and paint at casing joints. Absolute hopeless way to finish off a manufacturing job.
ACF50 Doesn't do much to help as it can be washed n
off and should be reapplied after a wash.

Have you never seen that fly-on-the-wall documentary where the huge blob of an 'aeroplane' scrapes its belly along the ground while taxying to its take-off ramp, from where, thanks to a mere smattering of smoke emanating from its twin thrusters, at a colossal escape velocity of half a-mile-an-hour squared (or something like that -- the physics bamboozles me, somewhat), almost unbelievably manages to get airborne? And that's not to mention the rocket that blasts out of the ground by way of a swimming pool that actually splits the fuck in two!!! Shocked

I mean, come on . .. get with the whole evolutionary top-of-the-tree programme here, FFS!!

Judging by the photo of your gaff, a simple severance of your property from next door's (huge masonry-cutting saw, laser beam --- whatever) . . . a few strategically-placed hydraulic jacks underneath your house, level yer driveway, button on remodelled left handlebar switchgear, house raises, you ride in under existing garage door, house lowers ... Job's a good'n, Bob's yer uncle, and good night Doris! Cool

Now, screwing the IL4, go out and buy that Goldwing wot you've always dreamed of, and we'll have no more of this nonsense, ok?

F. A. fucking B., my son!

Meh!, all look good in pictures but shit in the real, I can't believe the price they want for bikes that are rusty and shit looking, the third of the price I could understand and the dealers think there great.
