It's good not to be led by anyone but if you can't see how social media is used to influence the masses (and the tinfoil equivalent is used the same) then you're really not understanding one of the major problems that society is facing at the moment.

As for someone who's never wrong? That's impossible given the fallibility of human nature. It's also a straw man...

Bozo is to address the nation tonight at 8.00PM. Somehow, I don't reckon it's going to be good news*.

Without tougher restrictions, scientists have warned that we could have up to 75,000 deaths over the next 5 months Rolling Eyes

Not seen one single report from anywhere in the world. But think of the NHS!

It seems not. Neither of it, nor even with it.

Apparently it’s too soon to jump to conclusions so… Plan B now!

One thing though, if the Tories’ reputation for wanting to privatise the NHS were true this would be the perfect time to let it fail in the eyes of the public. Yet everything is geared towards protecting the NHS, even to the detriment of the rest of the economy.

Sage have an abysmal record for predicting sky high deaths and hospitalisations that don't materialise.
We should probably be more worried if they declare it all over.

First few cases in hospital this weekend but given it takes a couple of weeks for serious illness to occur and the new variant was only announced a couple of weeks ago it's still too early to call - although the data should be in fairly soon.

Hopefully it'll be milder even if it's more contagious.

Plan for the worst, hope for the best. That's pretty standard practice.

The UK's coronavirus alert level has been raised from three to four due to the spread of Omicron, the UK's chief medical officers have said.

The last time the UK was at level four was in May.

Top level is 5. Who’s still dreaming of a white Christmas?

New variants will inevitably appear. We should accept that and move on.

Plan being the key word. Not implementing plans for emergency situations when you don't yet have an emergency situation, because actions for emergencies generally have other detrimental effects. That's why you only implement them IN emergencies.

Some people will still be finding excuses for emergency action in two month's time, never mind two weeks Rolling Eyes
Anyone care to make a prediction now? Mine is no notable rise in deaths and serious illness, but more 'emergency' measures anyway, "just in case". Oh, and a new strain to wait out the results of in the New Year.

And if the choice is see the NHS overwhelmed (4 more people get sick?) or be allowed to live our lives as best we can, I'm for the latter. I wasn't born in order to 'save' the NHS. Bloody socialists.

There's the thing. The scientists advise, the politicians act. People are far too fond of criticising the science/scientists but they don't make the decisions. They look at the data/evidence and advise accordingly.

The cynic in me thinks they've come up with the predicted deaths figure by using the omicron infection rate and multiplying it by the beta death rate.

Omicron has been in Africa for over a month now.

This is the whole problem. They're obsessed with statistics and projections instead of what's really happening...or not. Bloody geeks.

While Boris may have said "bars & restaurants can operate as normal" the work from home thing effectively shuts down Hospitality in the City. Why does the government hate this industry above all others? Sad
