I do live in Portugal and my KLE always had this intermitent electrical starting problem. The engine does not fire at first start. Sometimes I have to insist with the starter 3 or 4 times in order get the engine started. Other times it starts as it should. Once started the engine runs fine and has no shown of any problem. Sometimes when I stop in neutral and put the side stand down the engine stops like if it had gears engaged. I have bridged up the wires for the side stand. I am selling this motorbike and I can not get hold of the wiring diagram for this model in order to find out what is going on with the wiring in order to bypass some sensors. The ones I find on the internet are from 2005 onward. Even at my local kawasaki dealer shop, they do not have it. is there any one who can send me this diagram by email or a piciture with whatsup, please? I could buy from a shop but I have not found any one who would have it . The models from ER and GPZ are different. i do have another oKLE500 I bought for spares but it was so good that I rebuilt it and this one runs fine. I have interchanged many parts from one to the other and have not found the problem. I have replaced coils with cable, spark plugs, ighiter box, junction box, ignition switch, alternator, pulser coil, It seems to be related to the diodes from the side stand, neutral light, kill switch, voltage regulator, clutch etc... The ignition switch has a resister built into it, and I thought it was bad conection and opened it up to clean the contacts and found it. The batery is new and charging very well. Both ignitions switches have one resistor that drops the voltage to aprox 10-11 v to the igniter box. I have checed the timing for the engine and is spot on, Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks |

Check the wire running between the main fuse and the ignition switch for corrosion at either end. This is a very common fault with these bikes.
Also check the clutch switch is functioning correctly.
I started colouring this diagram then gave up. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
