Having just done my CBT and theory 2 weeks ago and having my Mod 1 & 2 booked for the 18th Feb I’ve bought a bobber!

Really wanted the Kharki green and was looking 2nd hand but not many about so ended up getting a brand new zero miles pre reg 69 plate bike delivered for £8700 from Bill Smiths, Chester.

Gets delivered Wednesday but popped in to see it for the first time having paid for it without even seeing a photo of the thing, it had just been set up and was in the workshop awaiting its test ride before delivery.

Just need to pass my test so I can ride the thing Smile

I can almost taste the hipster vibe. Kinda oaty.

If it's what you like, great, but it's a tragic road bike.

Buys something he's never seen before for £8700: what could possibly go wrong.

Module one and two booked on the same day?

Some interesting choices.

*grabs a project from eBay to make myself a few thousound once converted into the hipster style that seem to be popular amongst D.I.Y / small outlets*

I am unsure what the proper definition of a "bobber" is. I'm not trying to be nasty, I just don't know.

Fair play Craig, you obviously know what you like the look of.

I hope you pass your test soon and get to ride the thing. Not too soon though as a single winter will wreck the finish.

Good on ya Smile

His comes out the box like that. It would appear there is enough demand now the manufacturers make them...... angle grinder sales must be falling.

I think a proper bobber has no rear suspension whatsoever and the seat is below the top of the wheel. Was an american 1960s cult. Uk road legal ones have the 'suspension' built into the seat, something like your great great grandads' bicycle had. Must say I'd like a ride round the block on one.

The risk is that 6 months or a year from starting riding, you discover what you like about road riding, and find your bike unsuitable. For example, you might like speed, track days, country road cornering, or being able to filter and save time in urban traffic, or long distance touring, or seeing over other traffic, gymkhana, stunts, or taking on trails, etc. The list goes on. In that situation, you're saddled with depreciation losses. I think it might have been better to get a more standard type of bike that lets you sample different riding styles, develop some techniques, have a go at taking a trip with some baggage, and things like that. Motorcycling is fun in large part because with every ride you feel like you're exercising a skill of some sort. Looks come low down in the list of priorities. People are busy getting on with their own lives and they don't care what you or your bike look lile. The majority aren't interested in, or dislike, bikes. I believe you should have taken advice on your choice of first bike. I used to think I wanted an Armstrong MT500. Good thing I never bought one, as it's completely unsuitable for the type of riding I enjoy. You don't know these things when you start.

It looks interesting, anyway. At a quick glance it reminds me vaguely of my old M63. I wonder whether the rear wheel is smaller than the front on the machine pictured.

My instructor said he had a guy who's main job was airline pilot. He'd never ridden a motorbike before but some people just have a knack for vehicles, any sort.

Then I can just sell it and buy something else. Ive saved so much on the list price I wouldn't be out of pocket from doing so but get what your saying, I might hate it, but for now this is the bike that has made me go out and get a licence Laughing

When i bought my Xena it was blind and the only other bike i rode was a YB100 some 30 years previously and the odd moped now and again, i would advise anyone to try bikes before buying, but sometimes you just get a feeling that it fits and you see a bike and you just know that is the right bike for you Thumbs Up

Oft trotted out line, chatting in the office...

"Is it normal to just go out and lech over your bike for no reason?"

"Yes, and if you're not doing that you've bought the wrong bike!"
