Developed a knocking noise.... Any ideas?

Right bit worried here, My er6f 2007 has developed a knocking noise (and feeling it too on my right peg)

I first thought it might have been the chain being a little loose, but i tightened it up yesterday and im still getting the knocking....

Ive checked the break discs and theyre all straight, and the knocking seems to be happening with each revolution of the wheel... But when riding the bike it kinds sounds like its coming from under me... Maybe in the engine itself.

The bike seems to ride normally, ive not really noticed any change in performance... But the knocking is worrying me. Before i go diving in and taking apart the bottom end, i wanted other peoples opinion on what it could be.

Now ive been leaving my bike outside over night this last couple of weeks (as ive had to leave the house at 6:30), its rained and we've even had frost... I cant see why but has this caused the problem?

All the gears seem to work, theres no grinding gears change seem to be 99% fine (I did have trouble changing down a gear once a few weeks ago but was just this once)

So any ideas?

If it is with each turn of the wheel why would you touch the bottom end?

I assume when you rev the engine it doesn't change the frequency of knocking?

We need to know when the knock is in effect/when it changes.

Does reving the engine with the clutch in change the knock?

Does rolling with the clutch in knock?

Can you get the wheels off the ground, spinning with the wheels Check for anything not right.

My flat mate once found a screw driver blade in his Monster Wheel, no idea how it got there, must have gottem in through the drain hole.

Get it on the centre stand and spin the wheel to rule out the chain.

It's more likely driveline or wheel related than engine if it changes with wheel speed...

Sorry yeah could have given some more info....
Ive not yet put it on the back stand, have planned to do it shortly...

No the knocking doesnt happen when I rev with the clutch in at stand still...

The knocking seems to be more in time with the rotation of the wheels. I thought if it was something in the bottom end, maybe the drive shaft to the little sprocket... (guessing here)

I was looking at the bottom end because thats where it feels like its coming from, ie I feel it through the right peg)

Something else I didnt mention that started a few weeks ago... My engine exhaust pops when changing gear or down rev a bit quick... I know people can make their super bikes pop like this, but my bike didnt used to do that and Im not that aggressive with the gear changing.

Though I dont think the popping is related to my knocking...
i might just need to check the spark plugs, maybe theyre worn out...

Im thinking aboug getting an MT07 in the next few months, Im really REALLY not keen on having an expensive fix for my current bike...

Find a suitably safe bit of straight road. With a hot engine ( normal running temp ) ride off normally and change into second gear. Increase speed to about half revs and pull the clutch in, let engine idle. Dont touch the brakes, but listen.

Knock slows down with the bikes speed all the way down to zero mph??

You may be able to select neutral and even turn the bike off whilst slowing down from half revs in second, even better.

Well no ive ruled out the chain like i said.

I tried riding on some quite roads killing revs and holding the clutch, and hearing the knocking.

As for gasket, which one? Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if all the gaskets are the original ones.

Sounds like what I had on my fazer,

I thought it was coming from the engine,and only heard it when bike was moving., was the rear wheel bearing in the end.

Well it either is the bearing or it isn't.

Give the wheel a wobble whilst it's off the ground (on the stand) if there's any movement the bearing is indeed knackered.

after heavy rain my chain can sometimes stiffen in one or two places, it knocks a bit only when pulling away, not on slowing down (but does clunk a little when shoving the bike around by hand)

bit of oil scrubbed in with a tooth brush sorts it after a ride.

hoping to get through winter on current chain and sprockets and get them done in the spring.
