not that I'm a fan of the new format or LeBlanc but he was far better than the ginger c*nt

It's already dead - it had one foot in the grave a couple of years before Clarkson and chums buggered off and the decision to keep virtually the same format, with a new group of presenters, was the banana skin needed to slip it into oblivion.

Like him or loath him, that format was all Clarkson (and Andy Wilman) and it was never going to work without that team.

You could see what they were trying to do - Chris Harris as the angry Hammond character, Rory Reid as the compliant and nerdy James May type and some sort of all round comic glueing it all together.

To be fair, it took a while for the Clarkson era TG to get going and if you watch the reruns (Dave start at series 2, quite rightly glossing over series 1 with the twat Jason Dawe) it becomes clear just how much it evolved over 13 years.

The trouble is, it became a format so copied, it's now hackneyed. It needs ripping up and starting again, new presenters, new format, probably new production team.

Likely not worth the gamble for the now cash strapped and ultra PC BBC, so it might struggle on for another season or two, then disappear.................................................

...................... or until Clarkson et al's Amazon contract has expired, when they can come back and save the day.

Haven't watched it once since Clarkson and co left. That said I never liked Hammond, and for that reason I never
watched the Amazon TG show either. It's been dead to me for years.

Harris was trying to be the new Clarkson, which's disappointing as I like him on his youtube stuff. Rory Reid was as Rogerborg says there to appeal to the yoof, LeBlanc to sell it to the American market (note how they had a lot more American stuff on).

I really liked the early old top gear, it was still a car show then rather than just a random entertainment show featuring motor vehicles. From what I remember Jason Dawe was fairly serious, with trade tips etc., probably not what Clarkson wanted Smile

And yeah the BBC should give up on TG, it isn't too bad without the ginger one but you're constantly reminded of how much better Clarkson and Co. were. They should have gone for a serious motoring show or at least made enough changes to set themselves apart from the old show, like the Grand Tour tried to although they largely abandoned their new ideas in the second series (and went back to what they knew).

I saw an episode the other night with Ed' and Mike after they relocated to the US (on Quest so probably several series behind), it seemed like it was already going down hill TBH. There wasn't the same attention to detail and spannering tips, which's mainly what I watch it for.

I don't know who any of these people or things are, but they should all be banned.

All I know is that they took a steaming dump (literally or metaphorically, I'm not sure) on the Cenotaph and are therefore literally Hitlers.

I watched it on catch up yesterday.

I'm sure 3 old cabriolets has been done before and bungy jumping a car was sssssssssssssoooooo exciting. Rolling Eyes

Then they do the Ariel Atom and don't show the lap which was so slow they must have had my 3 year old grand daughter driving her electric Barbie car, not the Stig driving the Atom.

I want to like it but........

It looked an absolute pig to drive in those standard british conditions. Ploughing on..oversteering...spinning up.

As for the show repeating itself I always expected that also pretty sure how many vegan sausage rolls can you fit in a mini will be up soon.

Point being, it doesn't annoy me as it has done before.
For a TV car entertainment program it's doing ok in my book.

I find it quite watchable to be honest. The presenters seem to gel and it’s entertaining. Yes, it’s OTT and silly but that’s kind of the point now in my opinion. It’s certainly not the essential viewing it was a few years ago but things change - maybe it’s me that’s changed too.

Well said on the "standard" conditions. I feel like the proverbial star in a reasonably priced car wouldn't have been too far behind. Which is potentially a bit embarrassing tbh.

No, that's not 'wrestling' with a car, this is wrestling with a car

Really enjoyed the new trio last series, but can see screaming "c'mon boys" "av some of that" every 30 seconds will grate.

That said. They've saved Top Gear. Chris does the serious driving and historical motor / racing industry bits and does so well. He can drive, knows what hes talking about and delivers the audio commentary well.

Paddy seems a fan and knows the 80's and 90's well enough.

Freddie has cracked me up. "I should have done strictly..... I've got an MBE".

I laughed more in that last episode than the whole of the Le Blanc / Evans series (not having a pop, they still had their moments).

Harris running about in the dinosaur costume getting whacked with golf balls. Cried with laughter.

I used to enjoy Top Gear. Not so much now...

The current presenters are fine but it's the situations! Every time they go off-road in inappropriate vehicles (or even appropriate vehicles!) I keep thinking "wouldn't this be so much easier on a motorbike?"

The Nepal special should be re-run on Himalayans - perfect bike for the task Smile

I love the fact that so far, Paddy's choices have pretty much been 'escort', 'escort'. He does seem that type. And Freddie does seem the type to buy the old tat he ends up with.

Where did Chris get a supercharged CLK for under £500? It must have been to the moon and back?

Overall I liked it, it's not Clarkson, Hammond and May but it's getting to a point where it can start afresh without them and not live in their shadow as much. It's carving a new niche. Not as good as the old niche, but interesting enough to stand on it's own.

The current line-up are fine for chemistry but ideally one might want car-nut, ex-racing driver & idiot and we have a surfeit of idiot Neutral

Still, better than the last line-up. It always felt a bit... racist Shocked Matt and Chris toddled off to far away lands and Rory was left at home to do the shite stuff. Wasn't even allowed on the couch for "Star in the [whatever it is this season] Car" segment.

BBC like it, they are moving it to BBC1.

The reason? BBC director of content Charlotte Moore decided to elevate Top Gear after being impressed with its performance among young and underserved audience

Clapping Clapping Clapping I hope that includes lesbians, trans, Pans and BAMEs Charlotte.

That was a spectacular failure. Spectacular! It kind of fits Paddy's personality to have such a poor vehicle.
