I sold my CB1000R about 3 years back now, mainly because I wasn't using it much and I felt like it was a bit too quick for me to enjoy on the road, recently decided to get rid of my scoot and replace it with a 'proper' bike again. I've always liked the semi retro style bikes, after lots of reading up I went off to check out a Yamaha XSR700.

Unfortunately the closest model available to test ride was a MT07 but it gave me a good idea of what to expect. Took a steady ride up the road to warm it up, controls felt good, bike felt nice and light, kinda had that supermoto thud thud thud feel to the little twin. Got to the open road and opened it up, whaaaahoooooo, felt like the first time I rode a bike all over again, realised how much I'd missed it. Lots of torque low down but it also revs nicely and manages to be quite smooth as the revs climb.

Spent the next couple of hours having a riot, it's exactly what I'm after, something that feels lively enough to be fun and to make progress without the bike (and me) always wanting to do stupid speeds.

Went back and had a play about with the XSR in the showroom, it's in a colour no longer available from last year so they've reduced it. I was looking at used bikes but the difference between a 3 year old 10k example and new was small enough to be justifiable (with a dollop of man maths) so went for it.

Much excitement, usual plans, tail tidy, exhaust, might wrap the tank later too. Few pictures >

It's exactly like mine, nice characterful engine and good handling + economy.
Can't really fault it but carrying any kind of luggage is a problem area - but there are more options now.
I mainly just use a backpack even though I'd rather not.

Expensive but Kreiga OS series luggage might work..I'm looking at that for my CRF250L.

Are you getting the black one with the big display or the silver? one with the round display.

I'm not sure if I like thses LCD screens rather than clocks but obviously it's modern day bikes and you can get a lot more info on them.

Nice bike whichever one you are getting. Thumbs Up

I don't need to carry much most of the time but if I go on a road trip then space for some clean threads will be needed. I do have a Kriega US tailpack knocking about somewhere actually, that should go on it alright, I'll try it when the bike arrives. Might have to learn to pack light though lol.

I see you found a facebook group, there's a decent forum too you don't have to join up to read.
Some good info about tyres and such.
https://www.xsr700forums.com/
There have been a couple of recalls - being new it should be already done, wiring chafing on headstock and a plastic guide for the drive chain can come off.
Mine still hasn't had either done but I protected the cables.
If you haven't got it yet might be worth mentioning at dealers, it will sound like you know your stuff Wink
