hey guys right now im a student and this morning when coming to school when going from 1st gear to second, my chain slipped off. stopped immediately and saw that the chain is in the inside of the gear bit in the rear wheel. Can I get it back on or do I have to have it taken to a motorcycle shop. Really don’t want to have to pay that much to get it taken. Cheers. Btw the gear isnt broken (I think) because the chain still moves around freely in neutral.

Count yourself lucky it didn't fly into, and smash open, the engine casings -- or get wrapped around the front sprocket to much the same effect.

Get it recovered to a local bike shop and get them to fit a new chain and sprockets; and in future play attention to basic maintenance such as tension.

You can save money by shopping, and buying, a set online. D.I.D chain and JT sprockets are what I've always gone with but not cheap when supplied through a shop. You could probably go O.E.M if that's cheaper (?) just depends how many miles you want out of a set.

Pop into your local shop of choice and talk to them about cost. You could do it yourself but assuming this is down to neglect then I'd pay someone else to sort the mess.

And by the "gear bit in the rear wheel" you probably mean the "rear sprocket: the circular metal plate with teeth on the edge that the chain feeds around." Remove the front sprocket cover and spin the front sprocket in neutral.

Requires photo's for the LULZ or to see if it was a failure on the joining link.

Right now I reside in turkey so i dont know the exact terms for some things (sprocket) so thank you for clarifying it. Yeah i’ll probably have to take it to the local shop and have them sort it out. I bought the bike quite recently and havent had the chance to sort things out (air filter, oil, new brake pads, chain tension etc. I’ll take a photo when i’m out of school. Thanks of the help.

To put it back on, you would loosen the rear wheel, move it forwards using the chain tension adjusters, put the chain back on the sprocket then re-tension the wheel and tighten the nut.

HOWEVER. As discussed above, a chain coming off a motorcycle is a sign of extreme levels of neglect of routine maintainance (part of which is inspecting, lubricating and adjusting the tension of the final drive chain on a regular basis). As such, I expect your chain is actually past the wear limits, possibly the sprockets too.

So I'd suggest getting someone who knows what they are looking at to check it over for you.

I would also suggest you buy a Haynes manual for the bike., The first section is about routine maintainance (chain tension is probably in the "weekly checks" section).

Are you at uni? Do they not have a motorcycle club? When I was at uni there was a bike club that organised chip shop runs and such. It also had a small lockup stocked with tools, a kettle and invariably people hanging about who know how to fix bikes busy tinkering with something.

And you are too dumb to look after the bike you have.

Hopefully your bike riding career ends at an abrupt halt and you end up quardospazzed.

Get legal or get off the road.

The clue is in the first post.

OP is a student.

Students don't know shit yet.
If not too much of a Spaz he could gain some knowledge in here.

Inshallah he is a fast learner.

Op already had experience of at least 2 bikes and still bought a bike and used it without even checking the chain tension.

Not student, just a Darwin award candidate.

I suspect your days on this forum are numbered, my friend. As discussed before, this forum can be quite bipolar, but to be honest we don't tend to suffer fools gladly. Especially fools who want to do illegal things, neglect their bikes to the point of self pwnage and then give us backchat about it. We won't care, you won't be banned, but you'll get annoyed with us because we're not giving you the answers you want. We've seen it countless times before.

Things have changed. People aren't as hooligan as they used to be. Cameras, ANPR and various other big brother things have put paid to that. Unless you can get a time machine and go back to the mid 90s, I suspect you might be out of luck.

Are you really in a situation where the chain is wrapped around the rear wheel, and you can't even begin to work out how to sort it out? If so, then you need to become friendly with a local bike shop.

They shouldn't... and people have been done for it. The only ones who aren't, are the #baklayf losers who steal all their bikes.
