Remember:
What happens in Fat Club stays in Fat Club

So I go to doctor and he says
"You're getting a right fat bastard aintcha? Still on the see food diet?"
then warns me of the risk of bad ades diatribes, high oil pressure an all manner of
medical nasties if I dont take action.

So, reckoning I'd better take this as a wake up call, I emptied the larder of beer, cider, bread, cakes, buns, sweets, various num nums etc
and went on this low carb diet and have lost about 6 Kg since 24th Jan.

Mostly water loss at first I'm told, but the odd thing is I'm actually feeling somewhat better
in myself even at this early stage and losing the weight so soon kind of inspires me to carry on.
Another odd thing is I dont feel particularly hungry.

Anyone else on this journey to slim beauty?

Amphetamine Diet works too. 🤣

Diet as popularly sold is usually a fad thing to lose weight.
Commercialised taefuck by many.

My belief is if the weight crept up on your ass over some months/years then take time to lose it.

Smaller portions of 'better' food. Reduce the point where your stomach feels full and cut out some of the shite and replace with good.
Green veg if you can get it.
Cut out red meat.
But the main point is that any diet should be one you can enjoy for ever.

My ex is diabetic (insulin pen). I remember folk would ask if she is on a special diet?
All the books and any info you get to live with diabetsayd you eat a healthy diet.
The same diet we all should aim for.

What ever your diet it number one needs to be stuff you like to eat.
Number two it should be stuff that does you good.

My book is out this summer.

I've just started again, loosely following Slimming World. 3 weeks so far, 12.5lbs (5.7kgs). The wife does low carb, I love my bread and chips too much.

As MCN said, eat less and stick to healthy foods. Make sure you like what you eat. Get exercise - even walking say, 3 -4 miles a day will help. Calories out > calories in. Thumbs Up

Forget the fad diets, they won't encourage you to change your eating habits which is the outcome you should be aiming for. They'll give you a short term loss which you'll inevitably pile back on when you come off them.

Good luck Thumbs Up

Really?
Well done.
How much and in what time scale?

Not sure if I've gone full keto yet just drastically reduced carbs and
sticking to simple healthy keto-ish food and doing some fasting which as
I usually have the will power of a crack whore, I find surprisingly easy.

The docs did give me a Keto brochure and I've been looking online too.
I dont want get all religious and fanatical about it just get my weight
back under control then allow myself some occasional indulgences
without slipping back in to the beer, buns and chip butty lifestyle.

25kg in ~4 months.

I never thought it would be possible as I also have terrible will power but once on it, hunger kind of disappears. I wasn't hungry till after lunch time and I would make sure I ate my calorie allowance within 8 hours.

Just a note to anti-keto people, a lot of people get the wrong end of the stick thinking it is some sort of fad but these low carb diets have been around for ages under various names. It is a calorie in vs. calorie out diet (the only type of diet that works). The thing that makes it work for me is it gets rid of my hunger and on some days I feel like I don't need to eat even though I'm not hitting my 30% calorie deficit that day.

I am not on keto at the moment because I fell off the wagon a couple of months ago and I could list various excuses but the real reason is I have been loving carbs again.

It is all very well people saying "oh just eat sensible smaller portions" but its not the simple. It's like telling a depressed person to "feel better".

Sugar really is the devil to people that struggle with their weight and even though I am not on keto, I have still avoided any meals that are mostly carbs e.g. pasta, chips, potato etc.

Another tip, if you eat below 20g of carbs per day, you are almost guranteed to be in ketosis but many can get away with more. Obviously any extra is just more to be burnt off so I tried to stick under 20g. Can be quick difficult.

Pretty damn good that
20-25Kg would get me back to my skinny 20s.
(wheres me flairs?)

When I sifted through the web bullshit to discussions from
proper doctor and scientists, the low carb/keto thing made a lot of sense
that's why I thought I'd have go.
I've spent years eating/drinking my way to borderline obesity, diabetes etc
so reckon I owe it to myself to get my shit together

Before Christmas I was training 3 to 4 times a week and with that I was losing weight without having to be to careful about what I eat.
I was also making a bit of an effort to stay away from the fried breakfasts.
I felt better for losing a bit of weight.

Since the training injury just before Christmas I have not trained much and have eaten everything in sight Shocked .
All the weight is back on along with a bit of a belly Sad .

Staying away from fry-ups and a bit of training worked for me.
That’s what I’m going back to now I’ve recovered from my injuries.

Fuck the doctor and the horse he rode in on.

Doctors really do my turret in. They give you all this so-called good advice about what you should do to not die (early or otherwise), and yet none of them actually remember to advise you that NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO, you are going to die eventually.

Anyway ... I just ordered pizza.
With an extra side order of heart attack.
So I can't join fat club today.
Even if I wanted to.

If it helps, it was horrid.
There was hardly any beef on it and it was supposed to be one of them cheeseburger pizzas. It was more like a vegetarian pizza, ugh.

I only ate 5 pieces, and even that was a struggle.

My fitness Pal worked for one or two people I know.
If I turn into a gannet and find myself putting on a few pounds I use it for a few days and it makes me realise how much of a greedy sod I am.
Fortunately I like exercise so I'm able to stay ahead of it at the moment but it's getting more difficult with age

My wife was diagnosed with Type 2 and I looked at myself (shuddered) and thought "I'm very much the wrong side of thirty to carry on the way I am!" So I've attempted to give up sugar...

Not in a literal, ideological vegan-style way, just trying not to consume too many blatantly pointless carbs. I haven't drunk cola, lemonade or red bull in about 5 years or so, not even the diet stuff. And now I find something like the occasion doughnut almost unpleasant in its over-sweetness.

I still drink beer though, one might go too far with these things!

^^^ Basically this

One of my ex's had a degree in sports science and, due to the amount of help I gave her putting together various bits of coursework, I effectively did the degree with her - it was amazing the number of myths it exploded.

Forget cutting out or dramatically reducing food groups, it will give you a quick fix, but once you get to your target, whatever it is will gradually come back into your diet and the weight goes back on.

We need everything, not just for vitamins and nutrients, but to properly process those things into our bodies.

If you want to cut out anything, lose processed sugar and if you like sweet things, substitute it with honey, we metabolise that much more efficiently and healthily.

The best way to lose weight is to calorie count - the average male takes 2500 - 3000 calories a day, so try a limit of 1500 and eat anything you like - lunch could be a pack of microwave rice and some protein, which leaves room for a dinner of a 3 piece meal from KFC with full fat coke, giving a total calorie count of 1400.

Alcohol is a major no no, so cut that out or dramatically reduce it.

And do some exercise, doesn't have to be the gym, could be walking the dog for a bit longer, or parking the car a bit further away from work and power walking in.

But the essential part is, eat anything you like, just make sure you burn more than you put in - feeling hungry is a good sign you're doing that and don't rush it, the quicker you lose weight, the quicker you're likely to put it back on.

Nah not for me. I'm actually right where I want and need to be.

Few years back I went to my (old) doctors for a well man clinic visit. A female nurse gave the interview. At the end she told me that I needed to lose weight - I kid ye not that nurse resembled a space hopper. She was so round she couldn't put her arms by her side and there she was telling ME to lose weight.
I laughed. I asked what weight I should be. I was told 11 stone. I'm 6'3" tall. She wanted me at the edge of anorexia. I need to add - I'm all muscle - not through gym but work. She wanted me to lose the muscle and be Hen Broon. I laughed. I asked what SHE would be doing in the mean time (yes I was offended) and she ran off.
Long story short she reported me to the doctor running the practice and this was at the main desk. Now Dr McDaid did not mince his words. He was dry as f*ck, direct and with ample humour. Again she pointed the finger at mean old me. His response? "Well he does have a point doesn't he?" to which Mrs Space hopper ran off in tears. (probably sued him but meh)

Anyway, I do look after myself. Sure I sometimes eat junk but my diet is varied and does go the correct way. Today for example I'm making a full dinner. It will be batched and eaten over the following two days too.
I'd love a kebab though..

6ft and 14st 11lbs at the moment and that's simply not good. I am broad framed but there's excess weight around ma belly and that's got Type 2 written all over it.

Why?

Well, I've put on about a stone since last year because my back decided to shat its discs and leave me all cripple like. Problem is I've got to get the weight off to help with the disc problem but I've got no chance when I'm a cripple without giving up food and that turns me to drink, and drink puts on the rubber ring waistline.

God is a reet fecker.

Not that I need to lose any weight (being a baw hair off 12 stone), I lost almost 11lbs in 3 weeks on the running-around-like-a-headless-chicken-at-an-Amazon-warehouse diet

I've had a fat nurse telling me to lose weight too,
but being a soft southern bastard I kept my thoughts to myself.
nodded humbly at diet instructions, took the brochures and crept out in a silent repressed rage. Laughing

Flash back to another woman. Was at a house party. She was a BIG woman. We were chatting and a bit touchy and then suddenly, after touching my waist, she shouted out "eww I can feel your hip bone" to which everyone else shouted out it's normal to! She was the only person with buried bones - deeply buried.

I'm not fattist. Blimey no way. I'm also not perfect - I'm quite broken in fact but when those 'obvious' people say things like that to me then they get it back just as much. Nothing actually scares me except wasps.

Diabetes may not be a simple overweightness connection.
Blasting your system with sugar means your pancreas has to be squeezed dry to produce enough insulin.
It's just another stress our bodies cope with admirably well until there are too many compromises to cater to.

Sugar and fat bad.

Fibre and exercise good.

Eating disorders are learned behaviour like smoking, drinking, sitting in front of tv/pc/phone for hours and other habits.

Break your bad habits. Replace a bad habit with a good habit.

We live in flats. I use the stairs rather than the lift. (Unless it's bin-bag-day.)

I am far, far from perfect and must try much, much harder but little by little. Maybe I'll live long enough to become perfect. 😇
