Flash back to another woman. Was at a house party. She was a BIG woman. We were chatting and a bit touchy and then suddenly, after touching my waist, she shouted out "eww I can feel your hip bone" to which everyone else shouted out it's normal to! She was the only person with buried bones - deeply buried.

I'm not fattist. Blimey no way. I'm also not perfect - I'm quite broken in fact but when those 'obvious' people say things like that to me then they get it back just as much. Nothing actually scares me except wasps.

Bees can give you quite a start if they fly near to your face though. 😲

Doctors really do my turret in. They give you all this so-called good advice about what you should do to not die (early or otherwise), and yet none of them actually remember to advise you that NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO, you are going to die eventually.

Doctors should never be trusted, GP's in particular are jack of all trades, experts in nothing.
By all means consult a doctor, and then double check everything they've told you.

Or find a good doctor that has a sensible attitude to medicine.

The common thing we all share with doctors is the human condition.

If you get on ok with your gp practice then there's not much to worry about.
If there is any doubt in doctor advice then discuss with the Dr.
They will probably even offer help of guidance for their patient to research too.
Doctors are scientists. (Good doctors are scientists).
Don't get into a fight with your GP.

There are some good doctors out there, I'll agree with that. However I find some of what you're saying contradictatory.

So they can have bad days, make mistakes, fck things up just like everyone else. No doctor is ever going to be as invested in your health as you are.

The profession is science based, but they're not scientists. A GP has a short time in which to see you, another stranger, in a day full of seeing strangers. In that time they'll listen to what you think are the relevant facts, ask a few questions and maybe glance at your file. Then they either tell you not to worry about it, but come back if it gets worse, or prescribe you whatever they're preferred solution is, or forward you to someone more specialised to have a look.
I'm not saying you should pick a fight with your doctor, I'm saying you shouldn't implicitly trust what they're saying.

That is all I was meaning.

Historically 'Doctors' were far from scientific. Its only in the last 100-150 odd years medicine/science has become more 'scientific'.

Hypocrates et al are vaguely famed for inventing/organising medicine.
Nothing is further from the truth.

A while ago I took up reading a series of novels* about a hangman and his family.

Apparently hangmen, who were also usually the torturers (as well as the collectors of garbage) had a good knowledge of the human body - and how to heal it - because they had to torture their clients and then make them well enough to attend a public execution.

There *were* doctors/surgeons (in fact there is also one in the story) but the hangmen and the midwives.

*The Hangman's Daughter, by Oliver Pötsch, is the first book in the series ... if you're interested.

I was perfect when I was born.

I've spent the last [variable number] of years ensuring my body degenerates on a daily basis until I manage to kill myself off with a heady combination of lack of exercise, food, sex ... and about 20 years or so ago, I decided it wasn't happening fast enough so I threw motorcycles into the mix.

Still here.
Still fat.
Still fucking amazing.

I suspect that was more about not pissing off the boss by accidentally torturing the victim to a premature death

Not dieting as such , just trying to be a bit more sensible about what I eat and now much I eat.

Lost a bit of the extra belly, ie I don’t look pregnant anymore Very Happy , so I’m doing okay.

The problem is that I have no muscle tone underneath this wobbly exterior Shocked
Not a good look Very Happy but I don’t care.
Losing a bit of weight has helped with my agility/mobility and with a bit of exercise it will help with my physical endurance.

We are not talking competitive athlete here, more like being able to get up the stairs without puffing Smile

I cut out week day wine and make sure i eat a smaller evening meal no later than 7pm. No more than one bottle of wine on the weekend.

So far after 8 weeks i've dropped about 16lbs.

On top of that if i eat anything with bread, i have one slice now now two and if i want a big meal, it's either breakfast or lunch.

And i'm T1 diabetic.

It's Lent so this week has been horrible not eating chocolate or crisps. It's Sunday which is a feast day so I'm having a coffee and eating Nutella from the jar...
In the week I've been pretty good, hit the gym hard too so hopefully it's all had an impact

Not on a diet per se. I've never really been over 60kg in my life. However, I have been a major sweetie fiend, and due to health issues decided to do something about it. So from 1st June to 24th December I went completely sugar-free, apart from natural occurring sugars in fruit and carbs.

It was difficult, not only because of the cravings, but because of my original enforced wheat, egg, dairy-free dietary requirements - I had to eliminate so much food including gluten-free bread, crackers, crisps that also have added sugar - I mean c'mon!!

Anyway I managed 6months completely free...and then allowed myself cake and stuff over the festive period. However, I am shocked at how little sugary items I could actually tolerate...I have found that I barely want much sugar at all.

When I bake now, I use a splodge of either honey or rice malt syrup and sometimes I don't bother at all. I use cinnamon powder to sweeten porridge. The only sugars I tend to have these days are in free-from bought bread, soya cream, crisps and crackers. Thumbs Up

I get the sugar free thing.
I’m not quite there as far as you Ms Clanger, nor do I intend to take it nearly that far.
However all that sugar in so much of the things we buy to eat makes me think Sick yuk!

As for honey Thumbs Up always have some in the house.
I put a drop in my tea now and again if I’m having a sweet tooth moment.

Can't seem to get rid of the last bit of flab, but have got some good muscle tone underneath it now, and noticeably more muscle bulk. Think I might even be a T2 diabetic, plus the limitations from all the old injuries, and wish I could afford a better diet. But pretty happy with where I'm at, all things considered. It's all something to do.

106-ishkg down to 98-ishkg at the 5 week mark.
About a stone and a half roughly
( crappy old scales must get new ones)
As initial weight loss is 'water weight' I dont
expect any further loss to be so dramatic.

Not all plain sailing but a lot easier than I expected as
I've never been on a diet in my life ( unless you include the 'see food' diet)
using the NHS online calculator my BMI has gone from 30 which is borderline obese to 27
which I hoped they'd say was pleasantly plump, but they say I aint, I'm still a fat bastard.
Ho hum
Onwards and downwards, early days and all that.

Go and see your doctor mate !
It wasn't until they gave me a routine blood test that I found I was
borderline pre diabetic as well as borderline obese.
It was the kick in the arse I needed to sort my shit out.

So being skint, my diet has changed considerably anyway, and turns out many of the things I have switched to are the healthiest options. I wish fresh fruit and veg wasn't so expensive though.

Much less sugar and fat now, and I crave it less and less, only weak points being chocolate digestive biscuits (which at least I don't tend to cane like other biscuits), and sugar in coffee.

I don't worry too much about animal fats in meat, eggs, milk so much, as some fat is a requirement - more concerned about sugar intake, and refined carbs generally. But I reckon I've got a pretty decent balance, considering my limited means.

Switch to honey - ordinary runny honey makes coffee/tea taste a bit different, flavoured honey can make it taste different again, but you soon get used to it.

I used to be a three sugars guy, now even half a spoon of white sugar doesn't taste right.
