Afternoon all,

I assumed this would be easy, but its outfoxed me... Anyone managed it?

I basically want to reboot the laptop "in some way" so that when its finished rebooting it doesnt open any of the normal background apps (Skype, one drive etc etc ) ready for gaming.

I currently go through a process where i reboot it, then manually go into the taskbar and close all the apps manually.

First world problems I know, but theres loads of them and its a PITA.

In old DOS days, Id have created a boot menu etc etc, anything like that exist either in windows or as a third party app?

Tar.

Open task manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del). It'll probably open into the simplified view, so at the bottom will be a "More Details" tab which you can open up for full view.

At the top will be a start up tab, which will show all start up programs.

You should be able to disable any unnecessary programs from there.

Yeah, bit that's permanently isn't it? I still need those apps the next time I reboot. I'm talking about a one time boot without apps....

There's selective startup options.

If it's affecting your 'gaming' then that's underspecced.

Selective startup is doable, or just turn every single app off on startup, it's always ready and not wasting resources anyway...

If I had apps loading on startup, they'd be removed. I'd rather have efficiency than faffing with 2 startup options.

It's a laptop, so every tiny bit helps.

Decent SSD, much ram and zero apps on startup.

Only way you'll do anything achievable to help.

I don't know if this works or not, but I'd try creating a second user account and change the start up programs on that one, under the hope that start-up programs are user specific.

Worth a go!

It's a good setup, it's an Acer gaming laptop has all the above hardware wise, runs pretty good tbh.

Closing all the apps makes a marked improvement

I've got 16GB RAM on my home PC and so far the only thing I can get to eat all that is Minecraft Smile

I have 16GB RAM and it struggles to eat it all, I'm picky though and non-essential apps are not opened at all until requested.

Just make it so nothing loads on boot.

You are essentially making this into a problem, rather than being nicer all round to your laptop Laughing

My pc is sub 5 seconds to Desktop. It has zero apps on start up. When I load Steam, my Razer and Discord are automatically called to open after 15 seconds of each other, that way I don't need to click 3 apps.

Solutions are my thing, is why I have this role in my job Laughing

It's kind of my job though 🤣 all the apps I am talking about are apps I use for work 99% of the time I use it (vpns / one drive / Amazon S3 / etc) I can't just not have them open and open them as hoc as it's masses more work than just closing them when I game. 👍

Disable all.
Create a batch to load games or work.

It's literally... And I mean literally, 3 minutes. Laughing
