Mmm, an MoT might not be required but a vehicle is still required to be roadworthy.

Definitely, it's been substantially modified. It doesn't have the original wheels or axles, which are required to keep the old plate. Not only that, but it's been rebuilt. For both reasons, it should have a Q plate. There are obvious reasons it doesn't have a Q plate: MSVA is complicated, historic vehicle tax, etc. We will see more abuse of the historic category as time goes on. Classic car collectors want to see the goal posts shifted from a rolling 40-year historic tax class to something like a 25-year one, similar to those in other countries. Dodgy builds like that one weaken the case for that.
I mean, it's reasonable to turn a blind eye when someone has rebuilt a historic vehicle (strictly illegal) but it still looks like a faithful representation of the brand, and then keeps the old plate as if nobody had done anything to it...

The fact it has had 16 bids on it already makes me even more sure the human race is headed for extinction.

I'd be more worried about what's going on with the tank. It looks about ready to drop it's contents all over your balls. Shocked

Be a good buy if you needed a new chain and some rearsets.

A lot of tears and heartache waiting for some poor soul here.

^Massively overpriced.

It was only a couple of years ago when you could buy a UK-registered, roadworthy XS650 for about £2500.

Is the XS650 a "special" bike? Surely the CB750 would be the No.1 Jap bike of the era.

It seems to attract the people who are into old British bikes, as well as vintage Japanese. I don't know - seems like a nice enough bike but not worth today's prices. It's certainly appreciated a lot in price. Probably worth it to quite a few people.

Dirty Bertie auction.

Looking through their feedback and it seems that nobody buys the bikes he lists. Laughing

I would say he's listing them wrong. Starting at cringeworthy prices is never going to get people bidding. (0.99p, no reserve and take a risk, you might get lucky!!!!

All things considered they look rusty but not rusted out. Maybe the sort of thing one might pull out of a California junk yard Thinking

The GPX750...

I can't even imagine what could have happened to that bike. Only 20k miles on the clock, too.

Same seller wants bidding to begin at £340 for an XS650 frame:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255999268060

More interesting info about other stuff, in the description.
The guy's gotta be on something... Maybe the dust. That's definitely stuff they chuck into the scrap metal lorry in America.

I spent precisely £40 (less Shiply courier's fee) on my last project bike's frame, which came with receipt and NOVA documentation. That was a USA import.

The XS is basically a trad parallel twin that doesn’t leak oil or fall apart when revved hard. Seems to be the preferred platform for building “trackers” these days as it has genuine heritage (Yamaha did build works dirt track bikes based on them) and there are still quite a few about.

The CB was revolutionary in that it was the first big inline 4 that could be bought by anyone who could afford the HP and was as reliable as anything else Honda made but if we’re are looking at things from a looks and bhp perspective it had a two year lifespan before Kawasaki did the job properly with the Z1. And if you weren’t bothered about civility the 500 and 750 Kawa triples in original form were both faster than the CB.

The XS is often a basis for custom projects, someone will want that and make something out of it. Frame and crankcases are there, the's probably all a lot of builders would be keeping. The big question is if the crank is in good order.

Idiots run after certain bikes for bizarre reasons all the time. It's 40+ years old, a basic bike formula, and isn't worth more than about £3k in the best condition. If it's commanding higher prices then that will change at some point. Just don't know when.
