"Previous theft attempt left the bike with a chunk of wiring missing from between up the front of the frame and where it connects to the handlebar controls and the headlight etc.
Fortunately the key is located in the back of the bike so it does start and run if you connect a battery to it"

I must admit that I have seen worse, but that price is pure fantasy. I'm also not sure that I would want to ride that thing at anywhere near 70+ mph with that suspension and those brakes. ____________________ Current bike: ST1100 "Big Red" |

In its defence it is in the double digit price range and if it stays there
that where it belongs, as a cheap toy. ____________________ bikers smell of wee |

Honda - The power of dreams (trademark)
Well for the thick end of 4 grand you too can own a dream, a dream of the ultimate blank canvas made into art.
A lowly 800 quid Indian/Chinese built machine liberated from a life of drudgery riding around cones on a deserted car park, or being ridden through foul weather by an office worker trying to compensate for an ambitious mortgage.
A cafe racer,.
CAFE RACER!
That thought alone keeps you motivated as you scour eBay for a replacement clutch to replace the one you wasted burning off scooter riders from the lights on the crossroads, whilst wearing a distressed brown leather jacket, pumps and moustache wax.

Was it picked over by vultures before or after it was set on fire?
It's my sort of bike but I wouldn't waste my time on it. Not special enough, and costs would spiral out of control putting that thing back together. I think the current bidders must be breakers. |

I can't be the only one who is perplexed why Cafe Racers and Scramblers are so popular?
I am probably about to commit an absolute blasphemy here but ... I think a lot of older styled bikes look shit.
I definitely favour modern styled bikes, the only retro looking bikes I seem to like are cruisers. ____________________ PRESENT: 2018 BMW S1000XR SE Sport.

I agree, most stuff designed to look "old" simply looks shit.
What they're trying to do is elicit the essence of the style of an almost-forgotten era. For example, take this BSA:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oo0JB5t6Ft4
What the rider sees is that join down the middle of the tank, chrome accents around the dials which reflect the light in a "starburst" pattern. The proportions of chrome to black, the positioning and sizes of the circles you see there are all based on design norms and fashions of the 1960s, which were the product of a tradition of art, architecture and modern design. It came out of Bauhaus, Art Deco, etc. It's hard for us, as relatively younger people, to appreciate this at first glance. However, if you look at old carriage clocks, suitcases and such, it will sometimes all click into place, as a sort of glimpse.
If you take 1980s Kawasakis as another example, the clocks on the "KZ" standard bikes usually have a fluourescent pale green waterproof seal just under the lip. That's 80s aesthetics, and is one of those things that younger people might not even notice. So what happens is, these things get chucked out and what gets created from the wreckage is, often, an abomination - a fantastical fiction belonging to no time or space.

Actually, you bring up some really good points in that, you're right I would have totally missed those little elements of design and detail.
EDIT:
I was watching that video Bhud linked and one of the recommended after it was this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqM4ADQzj7E
I have to admit the bike in that video looks absolutely gorgeous! ____________________ PRESENT: 2018 BMW S1000XR SE Sport.
