Just bought a bike and it came with a ding in the tank, would like to do something about it even though it doesn't bother me too much.

Youtube shows mixed results of people sticking objects on with hot glue then trying to pull the ding out, along with people using filler then painting over it.

Have you tried any of these methods before and if so what were your results like?

Never come across this and have no clue.
I would guess anything that can pull it with glue or suction and use compressed air inside the tank but there`s the fuel pump?? to consider.

There are places can press them back (from inside through the filler) with specialised tools.
It looks like a relatively easy one to do with no creases.
These are near me I aren't recommending them as such as I never used them but do know the guy running it - you might find one more handy. You get the idea though

I read the title as 'Tank dating'.

I can't help with advice on either.

Well I dont want to seem like an arse/more of but compressed gas in any tank is a risk unless the pressure and tank is compatible.

Tanks are pressure tested using a hydraulic pressure test. (Hydrostatic Testing.) Usually water is the medium.

The reason hydraulic pressure is used is because a liquid is not compressible.

When anything is compressed it becomes a store/source of energy.
If a tank were to fail under test/or whatever when filled with a gas the result would or could be a massive explosion.

If it fails when pressurised with a fluid then the stored energy is depleted as soon as the vessel ruptures.

That ding would be easier to sand down, key in, fill and paint.

Most folk leave them as it is a rather difficult job for cosmetics.

Simpler to got to the IOM TT and buy a sticker. Smile

air line and a rag to plug the filler hole does work but you might want to heat the area with a hot air gun first and some gentle taps with something not going to damage the paint "MAY" help pop out the worst of it

Give it me and i`ll blow it up (sorry out).

If you nearly fill the tank up to the dent with water and then slightly pressurise it along with suction Whistle

Practical Sportbike tried the hot glue, screw jack method and had some sucess although the dent was not completely removed and they took some decal off with it. May be worth a try - the kits are cheeeeep

You realise this doesn't work except to blow out the weakest part of the tank, not usually the ding or blow the seams?

More the case that you aren't on my enemy list at the moment. Watching you being repeatedly proved wrong is providing entertainment.
