Without looking it up, I recall that it's a sandwich with the top piece of bread missing.... yes, a slice of bread with something on top.

No, my dad was though. I thought it was a relatively common phrase. Apologies if you thought you were going to get:

And no, closest instrument I've played is the Banjolele Wink

Hang on, is this not the thread about coronavirus?

We do seem to have strayed somewhat off topic ...

It's page 70. Fair game for a hijack as far as I'm concerned.

I'm sure if someone wants to post something new, accurate and relevant to the original topic, it'll get back on track. If such a thing exists.

Would you keep your cash as cash, or in stocks & shares?

Well arguably it's a good time to buy shares.

But then maybe more premium bonds...

Or just buy loads of toys and stuff.

Invest in... blah, blah, blah. Gold, always comes down to gold.

"But the price of gold goes up and down like everything else!"

No, the value of everything else goes up and down relative to gold, gold's value is always the same.

Gold seems to be very high now. I do not think it would be a good investment, do you?

Indeed, the time to buy precious metals was the end of March. Which, incidentally, I did because I was concerned about the economy tanking or even the government doing a cyprus-style cash grab.

But platinum, not gold because platinum is actually worth something as a useful metal, gold is mostly just worth what people agree it's worth. Yes it's useful for some things but not in the quantities people hold of it.

Cuntries hold gold metal as a form of collateral.
When they shift a fcku ton of gold from reserves the market collapses.
Platinum less so.

See, this is what I'm talking about: it's not that the price of gold has gone up, it's that the value of the world has gone down Very Happy Something to do with recent events apparently, dunno... don't read the papers much these days Wink

Seriously though I took a look at the historical price and it seems strangely stable from 1980 to 2005. Then it started taking off. Setting aside the tin foil had for a gold foil one for a moment, one might think that certain people knew the 2008 crash was coming and put their money somewhere safe. The price has been nuts for the last decade.

Insider trading is rife everywhere despite it being illegal etc. Manipulating the markets for gold and precious metals prices is the norm. They said so in the film 'Diamonds are forever' so it must be true. Wink
