Paint black exhaust parts with PJ1 paint. They will rust again. Painted mild steel exhausts are like the Forth Bridge in that respect.

Talking of rust, ACF50 goes a long way to keeping the rest of the bike from deteriorating.

To the original thread starter:

yeah, like the others, welcome to the bikers club Very Happy

you will love it here, just avoid the potholes and the outrageous amount of 'oil' on the road, and you will be full A license in no time Very Happy

Yeah, like some of the others, I had a ybr bike as well. It was a good commuter. I bet you like the fact that it costs pennies to run (my fiesta
car cost me about £60 per month in petrol to run where as the ybr cost me about £10 - £15) and you can filter through the traffic (and look at the annoyed people stuck in there tin cans on wheels .......not able to move whilst you wizz past Twisted Evil )

any way, I will agree with the others, the bike is a fine starter bike as lost cost to run, and very light (you can push it around when engine turned off, it is like pushing a feather)

But beware, when it gets a bit windy, it can be pushed to the side by the wind quite easily, so remember that you have to keep counter steering .

Another thing to consider, I don't know if this is common on these bikes (mine did this and a friend who had one did this as well) make sure that you keep an eye on the oil levels, as one day I found it had no oil in it.......after the engine started to make a funny noise (I must have knackered it) got home and found a massive patch on oil on the floor in the garage......it must have leaked big time......same happened to my friends bike.
It must have been where something inside the bike corroded...and caused a leak in a seam or something.......

So just remember to keep your eye on the oil ...and check your garage for any sudden oil patches

Hi.

What back box is that, I really like the snug fit and size.

Below is my current frame, so looks like it is fine to just attach?

Sorry should have said that's not my bike, just an example of one with a top box. It's in far too good nick for me Laughing Any generic one would probably do nicely.

It's worth asking on the YBR owners group pages on Facebook to see if anyone has a genuine headlight/ surround for cheap as theres always someone parting one out because they destroyed the engine.

The Chinese windscreens are pretty good, I've got one on my bike. I fitted mine with ebay windscreen bolts and it's so much easier to take on and off. I did have to widen the holes in the fairing just a little for it to fit in though.

Engines dont just crap out all their oil suddenly. Gaskets dont just let go for no reason.

I've had o rings fail on oil filters but I'd be surprised if the ybr has anything more than a strainer like the chr.

Aye, it's a gauze under the right hand crankcase cover :-

My guess would be that the gasket was reused multiple times and got chewed. The one on my custom was a mess.

although could you look and see if you think the scrapes on the front of it are an MOT failure.
Also, is there a way of polishing them out without damaging it any more?

Thanks in advance.

Depends on if it's affecting the beam pattern. Wait for dark and shine the headlamp on a white wall and have a look.

Yes, you can polish out scratches in acrylic/polycarbonate. However the mops and buffing compounds for doing it probably cost an appreciable fraction of a new light. I'm not sure which plastic it is and you'd need a different stuff for each plastic. A lot of effort if the mouintings are damaged.

If you found an original one for £100, that's a pretty good price for motorcycle parts.

1500 grit wet n dry paper followed by an awful lot of polishing with autosol or other compound could rescue it. There are youtubes out there of people doing similar and getting acceptable results.
