Hi folks, going to be delivering using the bike, so currently want to keep helmet on all the time for obvious reasons. Also I ride with earplugs in (I use "plugphones" connected to a cardo packtalk) so as not to kill my hearing. Problem is I also need to communicate with people when I stop to make each delivery. Has anyone seen/made an external mic/speaker to connect up to the comms unit to do this? 🤔

Dont know the make but I know a guy does Deliveroo and he frequently calls me as he's riding.
He has a flip front helmet with built in bluetooth setup to his iphone
and I often dont know he's actually riding until he starts effing and blinding at traffic. Laughing
I reckon you need a similar flip front rather than buds and a rats nest of wires

The cardo lets me make and receive phone calls plus talk to other riders etc. It's talking to someone standing in front of me that's the problem, as I don't want to take the helmet off to remove headphones or flip the front/visor during the Corona pandemic. I've heard some coms units used to have a mic on the unit to let you hear ambient noise when stopped etc but the cardo does not.

Maybe over thinking a problem that's not a problem.

What earplugs do you use?

I've been using professional fitted and attenuated plugs for biking and at work.
I wear them all day at work 12hrs plus.

Specsavers manage a system for hearing impaired.
Hearing protection is more or less the same business as hearing aids.

You get an appointment.
They look in your lug holes for problems. (Ear health check).
Scoot some silicone jiz into each ear to make an impression.
That is sent off to the manufacturers who make the plugs.
Choice of filters. dB attenuated.
Takes about 3wks.
Cost about £90.
I have 110dB for work and 90dB for bike.
Can hear ok with both.
The filter blocks big noise.
Choice of colours.

Pros-
Perfect fit ever time you wear them. The foam plugs are kind of meh... unless fiddled with.
They block unwanted noise perfectly.
Conversation piece (wimin are attracted to guys with posh ear protection. 😎)

Cons-
Some may consider £90 too much.
If you lose one you will be sad AF.
