I'm surprised no-one has mentioned it or if they have I've not seen it. The lockdown. Are we grounded as going out on our bikes is non-essential travel, or can it be our one outing per day?

Now before anyone says "just do what Boris says etc" It's a question on many minds. More so as we technically do not need to socialise to ride.

Personally, I will be seeing how the next week or so goes. But even if someone nipped out for a ride, will they really be able to police it.

Lets keep this positive.

Nothing stopping you going food/pet/medical/hardware shopping on the bike, better & safer than using public transport

Higher risk of having/causing an accident than if you were sitting on the settee, potentially taking up bed spaces.

And then catching Corona because you were taken to the place where it's the most concentrated and you won't be given PPE or a private room.

I think ^^^ is what's going to keep me off the bike for a month or two whilst we see how this plays out.

Other road users who are out will think the roads are quiet enough for some straightlining and with the lack of general traffic, road debris will be more of an issue.

Health and Safety makes them wear a hard-hat to shovel tar out of a wheelbarrow and tamp it down with the back of the shovel. Do you think they are going to let them out when there's a virus about?

Exactly. You're allowed out once a day for exercise, so pushbikes are allowed but sadly it's a bit of stretch to extend that to motorcycles

They have been repainting faded lines at junctions and so forth around Suffolk. And fixing pavements (but I think that lot were the community service peeps).

@Riejufixing

one form of exercise a day - for example, a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household;

as were talking about leisure and not work or shopping.

Living on Anglesey...which has one of the lowest population per square mile in the uk....Now the fucked off all the idiots trying to self isolate here, several dog walking friends of mine on FB were impressed they got stopped whilst taking the 1 dog walk a day and asked what they were doing! The old bill on the A55 which is the main way across north wales are also pulling anything camper van,caravan or cars which look to be going on holiday with the fam and turning them around..... so if your car doesnt have a local reg plate your getting pulled!

It sucks but doing any form of non essential travel is quite selfish right now.

The guilt would be horrendous if I took up ambulance and bed resources because I went for a leisure ride/drive.

I don't feel good about driving to work right now but I need to go in to the office today but fortunately I'll be the only one going in

Haven't considered using the bike yet. Weather temp still starts with a 1 so.. no thanks Laughing

Never though about the crash + bed spaces aspect, cheers Karma

I went for a drive out into the Dales yesterday for my dose of exercise, it was fantastically quiet, and a really nice afternoon too. Properly smelled like spring.

Feeling guilty about it now Laughing Crying or Very sad

The taking up a bed point is really good. I've seen that people are getting stopped but also saw its unlikely to be in trouble driving alone or out on a bike.
But, the big picture is as said above with beds.

I think the big picture is normalising staying indoors. I still saw kids and crusties yesterday congregating in towns. If people keep seeing and hearing bikes whizzing around having fun they are more likely to think "fuck it, I wanna go out", and go linger around in a town centre.

I think the bed aspect is a bit of a diversion. I saw people galloping horses through fields yesterday (group of 6), that is more likely to put you in hospital, also now people are not out on their bikes get ready for the massive spate of DIY accident related hospitalisation. All the extra cyclists enjoying their 1 form of exercise will start crashing too and breaking bones but they are not being highlighted.

Fortunately/unfortunately I have relatives in the "at-risk" categories so I do actually need to drop off stuff to them. Wife does the big stuff in her car and I do the small stuff on the bike... just the way it goes Smile

Bearing in mind the old adage that most accidents happen in the home, surely from the point of view of A&E resources we are better off self-isolating beyond the garden gate?

Over the course of the next few weeks I predict millions of saw injuries, electrocutions, garden forks through feet etc... Not to mention clubbing/knifings as a result of domestic violence because we are cooped up with people we can ordinarily escape from.

I may be wrong, but I'd bet that the chances of ending up in hospital from walking the dog more than once a day is lower than that of DIY.
