I fail to believe these are all on necessary journeys. I suspect people are getting pissed off with lockdown and saying fuck it we are off out. Trouble is when the government sees the uptrend in traffic they will just extend the lockdown period so make it worse for everyone. |
I see some medical experts are now talking about this pandemic possibly lasting for a year or more at one level or another. No way any kind of lockdown is going to work if that's the case. Just a little more than a week in and some people already showing signs of cracking. Economically speaking, it's just not going to be possible to sustain it long term. The development of an effective vaccine is the only solution. But that could be anything up to 18 months or more away.
Of course there's always the possibility of effective treatments for the symptoms coming along before a vaccine. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Rate - noun
a measure, quantity, or frequency, typically one measured against another quantity or measure.
China has 23 times the population of Italy, yet Italy has over 4 times the deaths of China. That makes Italy's death RATE now over 90 times higher than China.
If Italy was the size of China, at that rate, it would have over 320,000 deaths by now, compared to China's claimed 3500. |
Italy has 120000 cases of coronavirus as of now and 15000 deaths. China 82000 cases and 3400 deaths.
Seriously, so now instead of 40 is 90?
Death rate from coronavirus taking the whole population instead of those affected from the virus? ____________________ A por ellos, que son pocos y cobardes. |

I think what will happen after the lockdown is that the authorities, prompted by the police, will realise they quite like the idea of telling people where they can and can't go, having the power to enter premesis, disperse groups and fine people for non-compliance.
I think we'll not only find ourselves being subject to random stops and questioning about our activities but also having to justify why we are there in the first place. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That would be quite a change on the current setup. At the moment, they are not allowed to stop and search without reasonable grounds, unless special permission is granted, such as 24 hours after a stabbing in the area.
Quote: | Stop and search: police powers
A police officer has powers to stop and search you if they have ‘reasonable grounds’ to suspect you’re carrying:
illegal drugs
a weapon
stolen property
something which could be used to commit a crime, such as a crowbar
You can only be stopped and searched without reasonable grounds if it has been approved by a senior police officer. This can happen if it is suspected that:
serious violence could take place
you’re carrying a weapon or have used one
you’re in a specific location or area |

I don't think this will happen while we still live in a democracy. It's just a panic or cynical overreaction to think this way. We get such reactions with every major change - Brexit for example. No sensible people really thought we would become a fascist state if we left the EU. I think the powers that be will do everything to try to get things back to 'normal' asap. I hope they will keep preparedness for future such crises at a higher level than we had though. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Industry could be gone. Banks close on loans. Banks bust.
| This is my worry.
The g'ment said it can "afford" to prop up the economy for 3 months, but the reality is with nobody spending in places that are closed, 50%+ of the closed businesses today won't be opening up again, every day another high street shop is starting administration, and many were still clutching CVA's and bailouts recovering from last years economy.
I expect we won't start to see a normal/stable economy until 2022, recession will be definite, question is how bad.

This, fashion retailers were already spiralling, and much of that comes through these places so the fashion industry will be shafted for ages, New Look, Arcadia and Debenhams are now bankrupt. Primark have very tight margins but were doing alright until the lockdown.
Independents are going to win here. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. Get some better happy pills, hit the gym & buy a medallion the size of a dinner plate. Job done |

Well I've got my old 2-smoke (almost) running, ideal apocalypse bike according to Yammie Noob
What would be nice is if the virus dies out through all this social distancing that everyone is doing and then the borders are left on lock down. You can only get in via sea and air - unlucky, NI, you share a border with Eire - and everyone coming in gets tested and put in quarantine for 14 days. Bonus points for catching all the other infectious diseases like TB.
But no, first the famous people will have a moan up on social media that we're living under the Gestapo so they'll get a pass. Then it'll be the slave maid they've shipped in from the Philippines and so on until we're practically back to no borders again ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

One thing that's not been mentioned but will surely happen is a post Corona baby boom.
A bit like the post WW2 baby boom, but probably worse since folk trapped indoors with nothing better to do than procreate, and much procreation will come from the welfare class.
By 2100 there will be shitloads of elderly Coronaboomers playing the system |
