Does my nut in that does.
I do wish they would stop "updating" fragrances.
The old fragrances were "classics" for a perfectly good reason.
Mad
I am desperate for some original formula Mitsouko.
It was one of my signature fragrances for a LONG time.
They used to sell off cheap at airports, the uppity Guerlain ladies looked down their noses at you when you asked for it instead of buying their expensive slicks of thickly-laid make-up ... but now you can't find it at all.

To take this thread as it seems to me the OP means it:

Fragrances for men are for women to decide upon.

Every now and again (probably once a decade) I catch a whiff of some soap that transports me back to holidays as a kid, caravanning or Butlins. I want to say it's Imperial Leather, or maybe Lifebouy.

Either way, it's a real nostalgia blast when I smell it. Haven't come across it for ages, so it was probably Lifebouy, since that's now banned.

Not at all, chickenychops.
In fact I once flirted with a guy BECAUSE I wanted to know what fragrance he was wearing*. Once I knew what it was, I lost interest in playing eye games.

The thread (of course) can be used as a generally all-purpose repository of olfactory pleasure (or indeed displeasure) - nostalgic or current day to day smells, anything is fine by me.

*rather surprisingly, it was YSL Opium

Banned for being too good at dissolving skin oils, which is exactly what made it such a good soap!

Wright's coal-tar soap.

Now contains tea tree oil (?) and fragrance. Pity.

I've only got boring incense left.
Shopping for same is considered an essential journey on planet hellkat.
But I shall behave myself and have the boring ones instead Rolling Eyes Puke

What *is* the bloody difference between "Egyptian Musk" and just plain old "Musk", any bloody way. FFS

What kind of shop that sells incense would be open at the moment anyway?

Egyptian Musk walks differently...

Shiseido Zen. I bought this for my soon to be wife when working in Japan. It's the most gorgeous perfume (on her) bar none.

Sadly it has been discontinued and only the bottle remains in her perfume bottle collection. If I take the top off, there is still enough smell to transport me back to Yokohama in the 80's. (and hot and sultry nights) Wub

Oh holy shit yes.
Zen was a BIGGIE for me, the height of sophistication.
I still like to wear Serge Lutens these days.

Wub And those black glass bottles Wub

I'd really like to try that now, actually - see if it has the same impact on me.

Laughing dirty git Laughing

It's impact was to make me feel "mature" rather than girlish (if "girlish" can be used to describe my typical saturnine teenage comportment back then Laughing )

Today planet hellkat smells of rice pudding, spring greens and bacon cooked in garlic butter, and Brut (again).

No sherry in the cupboard I guess - interesting improvisation.

Sherry's just about the only thing I don't have.
There's quite a lot of booze here, oddly enough.
But I don't drink very often so it kind of stays there, and mounts up cos I only drink like one or two drinks out of it*, and then leave it for months.
Does alcohol go off? Thinking no idea ... I tend to use undrank (?) wine for putting into risotto or pasta sauce for richness.

*(oh well, ok: except for that small bottle of Baileys I might have started and finished during last week's binge Laughing )

I tended to keep sherry, white wine and cider in for cooking purposes, but I've had to drastically slash my budget in recent months so have cut them all out Sad

I'd prefer to keep Marsala over sherry, but that got the chop years ago due to cost, hence the sherry. Not as good, but does in a pinch.

My method of deciding whether an old bottle of booze will be any good still is very unscientific - I go on how I feel about it Laughing But I tend to buy only the smallest bottles for cooking anyway. Sherry - maybe a year? as I haven't seen small bottles of it where I shop. I use cheap enough stuff that throwing it out isn't too much of a problem.

My late grandfather when I was a kid had a blue ford cortina estate with vinyl seats.
He was a carpenter and used to keep his tools and overalls in the back.

On a hot summers day the car would stink of varnish, cut wood and hot plastic.

This morning on my walk someone must have been doing some wood butchery because I caught a whiff of the same vanish and it transported me back to being 6.

Funny how smells can do that.
