Hola.

My partner and I are about to seek a new location to live.

We both want somewhere quiet, away from London but also a bit more north so she can be closer to her family and at such time... we will start our own family.

We've been looking for a few weeks at areas and pretty much settled that a countryside area/small village is ideal. I 'hate' people... so it suits me.

I'm looking at Lincolnshire, around the AONB, so around Horncastle, Spilsby etc.

There is a single place I've found now that ticks all my boxes, but having never really lived far from London, I'm looking to get some insight into living 200+ miles away.

Job isn't an issue for either of us, neither is money, its our mental states that need it more than anything.

The prices of stuff up there is remarkably cheap, 200k here gets nada, 140k there gets 3 beds in a quiet village.

I don't want to venture into Scotland, nor do I want the west side of the UK/Wales, purely cos east side is da best, but also because our families are both east and for the occasional trips to the office, I'd rather it stayed this side.

Any areas I should be looking at outside of Lincolnshire? I'm also being pretty peasant with it because I hate spending money in big chunks and I want enough to renovate.
Also are there things I am overlooking, internet connections spring to mind, but I only need a stable/reliable 20Mb, mobile signal apparently gets a bit spotty up there but again, I have 2 providers for that and tend to use wifi calling..

Any pointers Smile

To be able to give an opinion, it is necessary to know the boundaries outside which you do not want to move.

I was up that way last year.
I thought Barton-upon-Humber seemed like a nice place to be.
Maybe it was the sunshine or the quality homemade pie I had from the local bakers, but i thought it was nice.

It wasn’t that far in the back of beyond and appeared to have all the shops and facilities needed for civilised life.

It must be north of Peterborough. It must south of Hull.

My office visits will be factored in, so that's far enough for me.

Nottingham is kinda the edge, as far west as I would want to go.

My sister in law and hubby live in Lincolnshire as does my wife's cousin. The all love it because it isn't crowded and like you, they are not particularly city people.

It is actually one of the places we have considered to move to once wifie retires because of what you get for your money. I doubt there is anywhere else in the south/midlands which so much bang per buck in the housing market.

Public transport is utter pants though.

Bloody hell, just ADMIT IT. It's Cadwell, isn't it, that draws you.

Anyway, virtually anywhere within the bounds of the AONB will future-proof your investment, you wouldn't want to find yourself in deep water.... Not an area I'm very familiar with.

Anywhere in the north west, you can buy a house on a credit card! Smile

Lincolnshire is nice, similar around oulton park in Cheshire.

I did just see Cadwell.. Neutral so... Yeah sounds like its a great place to live.

I don't mind the city, but I'd much prefer the quiet life with a garage I don't need to alarm and slightly less crime.

I quite like the look of Norfolk.
Took Bruno there once, with my mate Elena.
Weybourne, it was lovely.

Lincolnshire has some fantastic roads - and Cadwell Park. That's all I have to say - but did I mention Cadwell?

Studley. Just outside Stratford Upon Avon. Got it's own castle, good biking roads, Brum just down the road for shopping. Nice place, worked there once.

I'll have you know that Brizzle is like paradise compared to Nottingham. I used to love staying with my aunt in Montpelier...

Sounds like a great plan Paddy. Thumbs Up

Unless it's change drastically in the last 20 years, Bristol is a beautiful city.

Nottingham used to have the highest female to male ratio in the country though, I'm not sure it's still the case. Oh, and it also used to be pretty high up on the stabby stabby register.

Anyway, if you can live in a nice village, who'd want to live in a city. (rhetorical question, I know some people would have a heart attack at the sight of a sheep that wasn't on a plate.)

My original plan was to head to Florida. I've saved up more than enough to head out there but there are things I can't satisfy as I do not have a degree, I also have zero family out there and I kinda can't get married to a US person because I have my own lady indoors Laughing

Whilst I don't get the heat you do, nor would I get the enjoyment of Florida, I would have a peaceful life with very little stress and I'm happy to take that.
