Now we've got the noise sorted we can look at heating maintenance.
You need to flush the system using a proprietary flushing solution.
Then flush that lot out using fresh water.
Then add an inhibitor.
May I recommend a pump noise solution too?

Look at the fernox website.

You may have inhibitor in the system.
Test by dribbling some heating water into a clear glass jar and leave a steel nail in it.
If you have inhibitor then the nail will not rust. If no inhi9you will see rust forming within a day or two.

Rust and heating system bad.
It create gas which can cause noise by displacing the water.
Other stuff like sludge to slow circulation and fouling the boiler tubes too.

I don't know how to do any of that. Complicated out easy? Do I need special kit to do it?

Not dead complicated. On technical ability score its about about 6 out of 10.
Just a little time consuming to:
1 drain down
2 Fill with fresh water
3 Fire a system cleaner through
4 Flush out the system with a couple of fills of fresh water.
5 Fill with fresh and add your inhibitor and pump maintenance additives.
6 Bleed air out. I fitted self bleeding 'bleeder' to all my radiators about £3 £4 ea. EBay.
They automatically let any air out that builds up in the system. But with enough inhibitor there should not be any gas build up. The inhibitor prevents the electrolysis thing between the pure water and the ferrous in the radiators and boiler tubes.

Inhibitor is recommended to be changed at two year intervals. I do every two if I remember. Embarassed
My system water is very, very clean and I'm not using the heating all the time, due to being out the house for weeks at a time, so I adjust the interval to suit.

Fernox stuff comes with instructions and they have some good videos on their website.

In theory, a clean system is more cost efficient as the heated medium (water) flows better so can carry heat faster to radiators to radiate heat out into the rooms rather than just storing the heat in the medium and travelling around doing no very much good.

Depending on age of property/system and previous maintenance the results can vary.

If your water is muddy then it may take a few fills amd drains to wash most of the crap out before you add a system cleaner.

Another tip is to lag every hot water pipe you can reach. The foam costs pennies compared to the heat thats continually soaking away.
And 'silver' radiator reflectors behind your radiators help keep heat soaking into outside walls into the garden. Rolling Eyes
