Thanks, but it's not finding new stuff to read, it's not being able to afford it. Kindle has some free books, but they're usually not the greatest reads, apart from classics.
Sometimes I wish I could afford recent releases.

have you tried charity shops? they sell them for a quid or less at some.
also in my area they have book lending places. usually old phone boxes or similar sized structures where people leave old books for others to enjoy.
arent there similar things where you live?

Haven't been into the town centre for ages, which is where the only charity shops I know of around here are. You're right though, I ought to go take a look.
Don't know anything about the latter thing around here, haven't seen anything like that.
Should probably think about joining the local library too! Doh! If it hasn't been starved of funds to its death; haven't been past that in a while either. Library visits used to be a habit in my younger years, but just got so used to buying the books I want to read (latterly on Kindle), it just hasn't really crossed my mind - silly! Too used to convenience.

The Dam Busters by Paul Brickhill

The story of 617 squadron, not just Operation Chastise (the raids on the Ruhr dams), the whole story and their association with Barnes Wallace who not only developed the famous bouncing bomb but also the ground (and concrete) penetrating Tallboy and Grand slam bombs. Utterly fascinating and an insight into the extreme bravery and innovation of the bomber crews. Highly recommended. Thumbs Up

The Escape Artist by Jonathan Freedland

Story of Rudolf Vrba, who managed to escape from Auschwitz. Extraordinary tale. Although of course I know all about what happened in the Nazi concentration camps during the war, I've never read a detailed account like this... my God, the shit those bastards did Crying or Very sad

I’ve got about three books on the go at the moment.

Daytime is ‘Sharpes Prey’ by Bernard Cornwall, then on Kindle in the evenings ‘Worth dying for’ by Lee Child, and due to tinnitus I listen to ‘The Unquiet’ by John Connolly on Audible rather than a high pitched keening as I go to sleep.

I frequently re-read/listen to books, my wife says she can’t as she knows ‘who done it’. I honestly believe I can only ‘cos I’ve got such a crap memory!

I blagged a copy of the biography of Bruce McLaren off the Senior Consort last week, and only just started it this weekend.

He's a local chap! An Aucklander, woot! I never knew that. He used to live in the same part of town as my mum's boyfriend (now also deceased). Its a small world!

Very interesting. I am enjoying it muchly, and I even recognise the placenames most of the time. I am enjoying going "Been there!" every few pages Laughing

Re reading the 'Legend' series by David Gemmell.

I read them years ago to kill time at sea. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed his blood and guts fantasy style. Laughing

Trigger Warning, a collection of short stories by Neil Gaiman. He's a brilliant writer with an engaging style. I've read a lot of his books and loved them all and this one is no exception.

An old favourite: "Legionnaire", by Simon Murray. One Englishman's experiences in the French Foreign Legion during the 1960s when Algeria was fighting for independence from France.

'War on the West (How to prevail in the age of unreason)' (Douglas Murray.)

Still chewing through 'Into the Silence' George Mallory's adventures on Everest. (Wade Davis)
One of those books that has deep, historical side notes as continuity.

Apple, Google and Amazon have a broken chamber pot which is interrupting sales.

I never used alternatives as I am wary of the shite surrounding t' Internet.

Every time one registers one's details you are wide open to spamery

I was getting music and books downloads via amazon kindle but that's' all fked up by google wanting too much of a cut from enabling the transaction.
Amazon moosik and book sales have to go in through a back door that Amazon have.

A bit of a phaph.

Searching for tunes is a rite royal PIA too now due to the same effects.

So I cannot help. Sorry.

Z lib is like a kindle e-book site.

I have never used anything other than Kindle.

I like paper books but I travel and books weigh as much as a box of Shreddies and I cannot use the fibre in books.
So shreddies in the suitcase E-books on the Phone/PC.
