Just let me assure you I have nothing invested in the idea of visiting aliens, just as I have nothing invested in the idea of string theory, dark matter and energy, or even whether strawberry cheesecake is better than blackcurrant cheesecake.

Good. The objects in the video are just artefacts: something observed that is not naturally present but occurs as a result of the investigative procedure, be it optical or radar in this case. Ghosts in the machine.

In case I've ruined the thread I should add that it could be aliens or God or magic. Carry on.

But did the 'US Navy' say all that?

Some 'artifact'. Persistent enough to instigate a fighter launch from the carrier group with it's state of the art military radar screen, at which point it also manifested on the aircraft radar and cameras, sufficient to be identifiable as a structured object almost 50' in size and performing precise manoeuvres. It then proceeded to barrel roll around the aircraft and descend instantly from 28,000 feet to below the surface of the ocean and back up again, without attendant sonic booms whilst withstanding an estimated 1350 G.
For the US Navy to be this candid indicates a process of soft disclosure. I think we should consider the vastness of space and retain an open mind.

Military technology is far from perfect. There were a lot of terminally surprised seagulls when they put the Phalanx system into operation.

Also, please provide a credible source for the assertion you've just made. Thumbs Up

You can't expect tired amateur astronomers to review this kind of stuff objectively Laughing

Rationally:

You can't trust the word of tired military personnel (military personnel are always tired).

You can't trust the memories of ex-military personnel.

How much money are they making from such publicity?

Are they collaborating on a book that might make them a lot of money?

Just playing devil's advocate Smile

Pass the popcorn

Slicing it to the bare basics with my trusty Occams razor, it seems that the most likely and most rational explanation is an artifact caused by the optical systems in use. Smile

Low resolutions images, advanced optics using multiple mirrors and an optically plane glass plate in front of the camera and optical systems...

Yep. Most likely to be an artifact. Thumbs Up

Then it'll be the Inner-Earthlings; technologically-advanced, amphibian-like people from the centre of the sphere.

Seriously, these tales are a patchwork of curious observations and second-hand stories deliberately gathered together to manufacture one supernatural event in time.

Some people want to believe, just like they want to believe 9/11, 5G, Covid19 and vaccinations are a conspiracy.

Unfortunately, neither of your links appear to be very conclusive, especially the second one with the mad professor (why do professors always have such wild hair?!), who seems to constantly stress that he would like to see more evidence, and is careful not to say it's all a fake. But anyway, I have no idea why he would be the correct expert to submit such an enquiry to.
The first one says there are 3 versions of varying quality, and then appears to go on to discuss what they have said themselves is the worst of the three - which didn't give them much to go by.

The FLIR mirrors question seems to me to be a bit weak since the video shows different sensors being used, including visual camera, and still the object remains pretty much the same, although with varying degrees of definition.

It would be interesting to see any original military documentation and reports that go with this, since no one seems to be arguing about the original source of the video (i.e. USN).

My conclusion is that there is not enough evidence to say one way or the other what we are looking at. The video is not the only evidence that would need to be taken into account. You have air and shipborne witnesses to the 'event', and we would need to establish the trustworthiness of those sources. I would tend to trust professional (professional, right Islander? Laughing ) military personnel, but I would trust it a lot more if there were, and we could see, official reports of the incident from the time at which it occurred.

You have links in this very thread of two supposedly first hand accounts - the pilot, Commander David Fravor, and a shipborne radar officer who was in contact with the pilot at the time. They're not second hand stories, unless you believe these two were not there at the time as they say they were.

I want to believe the main proponent of such theories on this forum is an unhappy figment of my imagination, but alas I fear it is not so Laughing

Look up St. Elmo' Fire and ball lightning. My objection to these stories is the illogical leap to "aliens!"

Would you consider very much 'of Earth' "Top Secret" tech.?

From wikipedia:

most scientists have treated reports of ball lightning skeptically

Seems to be as much doubt about this as UFO reports.

I'm saying that kind of awesome natural event can be interpreted as secret technology crafted by us or aliens, but isn't. Why assume it is?
