The other day, in a Facebook group someone shared an image showing Londoners taking refuge in a tube station for the night.
Something like this.

A quite poignant comment came from a woman, slightly older but not "World War 2" old, who said she was recently in Germany visiting friends. They were catching a subway line and she told her mate about how Londoners took shelter in tube stations during the Blitz.
Her mate turned to her husband: "Hanz, they bombed London!"
It seems Germans were really kept in the dark for quite a while about how big the whole world war thing really was. |
