Hello, I’m curious about anyone that has mounted number plates on the side of their bike and whether this is road legal/ pass MOT.
I’m think about mounting my number plate on the side, all photos I’ve seen are mounted on the near side and the taillight is above the number plate and not central of the bike. Is this legal?

I’m working on a 1996 Honda CG125 that I purchased 2 weeks ago as a running project (cafe racer style) (no MOT). This is my first bike I’ve had on the road. The year of my bike (1996) is 12V and it has a 12V battery but the flywheel generator only outputs around 6v when idling, is that normal? I can’t see how that would charge the battery. I’m sure when riding that goes up but not double up to 12V. Would like to know as I’m learning Smile.

Thank You

Oh dear. Please tell me that the frame loop wasnt cut off by whoever butchered a perfectly serviceable bike.

Sounds like your stator is knackered.

Most tail//brake/stop lights are also the number plate light.

To be legal if the numberplate / rear light isn't mounted on the centreline of the bike then it needs to be mounted on the offside, not the nearside.

This is from Schedule 1 ( Part10 ) of the vehicle lighting regulations (1989)

(ii)Where one lamp is required to be fitted: On the centre-line or off side of the vehicle.

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1989/1796/schedule/10/made

It's all there online if you know where to look .

Don't. It'll make it look like someone's nicked your sidecar.
