Trump is an existential threat to the establishment. A complete political outsider, politically incorrect, no allegiance, can't be bought and bursting with self belief. He is openly challenging monetary policy, regulations, and the power of special interests, Congress, the United Nations, the European Union, the WHO and the Federal Reserve. Everything.
It's entirely feasible that a corrupt political system might try to bypass the rule of law and fabricate a false narrative to get rid of a populist loose cannon like that.
