Good point and one that slipped my mind. Actually when i spent the year there 2009-2010 i did look at shipping a camper van over there as it would have worked out much cheaper, as the second hand market in aus, but especially for vans, holds quite strong.
The only thing that stopped me is australian customs took a deposit equivalent to the list price in australia and only refund when you stamp it out, and i couldnt afford to put the cash up front as well as pay for the van and shipping.
However i seem to remember, much like when i imported the TDM to the uk, the rules are different when you come in with it as a vehicle, rather than ship it seperatly as goods. Which is why im leaning towards the bike, although loading up and camping will be a faff, much more flexible when it comes to crossing water, means i can stay with it, get it onto pretty much any chicken boat going out of singapore and argue its not shipping cargo but personal effects. Be interested to hear if anyone has done it |

Well my good buddy who was going to 250cc tour with me has asked if we can do it next year due to this Coronavirus shite.
Late bookings and all that, and every man and thier dog holidaying in the UK this year.
I’m still planning to go somewhere for four or five days, God knows where?
It was going to be North Wales, now Durham & Northumberland are looking attractive.
All that lovely sunshine and we’re in lockdown.
Lockdown is starting to ease and now the weather is changing, just as I am getting the opportunity to go away for a few days.
I’m starting to climb up the fugking walls here ____________________ I am the sum total of my own existence, what went before makes me who I am now! |
