Afternoon men.

This isn't bike related but it's still a workshop matter never the less.

I can't get my hedge trimmer running properly and my hedges need trimming.

Problem is that it bogs before eventually cutting out off a finger full of throttle but it will run at full power on ½ a fingers worth of throttle.

Runs with no air filter off a full fingers worth of throttle but not a full speed.

Tried running without the fuel filter still bogs and dies off a full fingers worth of throttle.

I've checked;

Spark plug - Good.

Air filter - OK (I'll post pics)

Fuel filter - OK (I'll post pics)

Spark arrestor - Not sure it has one fitted.

Fuel mix - OK.

Carb adjustment - Tried to no avail.

How to fix?

I'm assuming it's 2-stroke. What mix ratio are you running?

BTW, what's in the safe? Pr0n stash?

<addendum> is the carb a diaphragm type? They can be quite delicate, i.e. easily damaged on reassembly.

My hedges are getting very long now.

According to a youtube video a gentleman with the exact same issues on the exact same hedge trimmer had to send it back to Husqvarna for a new carburetor.

A comment on said video claims there's a hidden screw on the carb which he adjusted and in turn it fixed the bogging down issue.

It sounds weak. Sometimes the fuel pickup in the tank has a lttle filter around it which can get clogged with grass/ fluff/shite. Its a spill type carb where resonance in the inlet moves a diaphragm pulling fuel round , the jets can block , but they are ever so tiny. The diaphragms can split.... does it return fuel to the tank?

I tell you what else is worth doing.... Sounds odd but listen on . With the air filter off get it going as fast as you can and then put your finger down or palm over the carb inlet cutting off the air, give it full throttle. The huge increase in vacuum sometimes pulls shite through the jets clearing them out.

I've had another tinker and tried some fresh fuel 50:1 still doesn't want to cut my hedges.

My experience with garden two strokes is that they like to vibrate all the bolts loose, last time mine failed the barrel was coming off. Strip the plastics off and check everything is tight.

The fuel mixture is ok (slight smoke), also you have good compression.
It needs more fuel reserve in that carb to keeps high revs.
I would check the carb internal filter and the diaphragm rubber pulse pump and the other rubber diaphragm which lifts the needle valve for flexibility. (carb kit really).

I will get her on the bench and open her up to examine the carb fuel filter.

Rebuild kit query on Google turns up generic kits for a few ponds at present my best bet is to check out the reviews and go with the one that looks the most promising.

I find it easier to scribe a line down one side of the carb for an easier rebuild.

I've been looking for a rebuild kit without much luck. So will any generic chinky carb fit?

Why not remove it and clean the outside then open it up, it may only need the filter cleaning and the diaphragms checking (which are common).

The internal fuel filter is a round very fine wire mesh 5 mm diameter.
(i use a thick needle point to flip them out)

Just strip it, spray it all with carb cleaner, let it soak, reassemble with cereal packet gaskets, 5 min job.
