So apparently my internet being down is due to 3 Openreach lines being cut, which I've now heard is being treated as cable theft. Thousands in the local villages are down, plus the main line to one of our hospitals, so we're now running on a slow backup line instead of the primary and it's chugging bigtime.

Good job EE have just given me unlimited data on my phone for being NHS Smile

I look after the network and infrastructure for an NHS trust. We've 2 smaller sites down completely and the main site running on the backup line. It's also having a knock on for the users who are now working from home using the VPN. Not good timing.

I'm in telecoms for an nhs trust.

I'm not sure what yours is like for moving people around/closing buildings/hospitals. But we recently had very similar when one of our victorian mental hospitals was closed and vacated, soon everything was vandalised, wiring and equipment stolen etc etc. They weren't gypsies. But they were scum.

It effected us all trustwise with the network Sad

Aye, buildings get mothballed and reopened left right and centre. We get instructions to move teams out of one office and close it down, and the week after find that they've moved another team in from elsewhere, and are wondering why all the points are now dead.

Typically we get more problems with squirrels than theft though Smile

Ah yes..

"We're moving every body out"

Everybody moves out inc equipment and various types of contracts changed.

"We're selling the building/giving it back/contract has ended"

2 months later

"We've decided to renew the lease after all so we're moving some other department into the vacated building"

Equipment, contracts renewed etc.. Such.a.pain!

This Laughing

If the site was there before the cable was laid then serious retard points to the people in that decision making process.

We have 'just' received smartphones as an upgrade from my ancient 5.5year old Nokia 109...it is rather lovely being able to listen to a playlist from YouTube on my lunchbreak. Mr. Green

The local stuff will be copper or aluminium but the backhaul cabling will be fibre optic. However your average copper thief will rip those out too on the slight offchance that there's some copper in them and that they can weigh them in.

Everything's fibre apart from the last few hundred meters from the cabinet.

But the NHS might have their own prehistoric system with dialup modems running just through copper lines. Razz

Apparently...

"The Travellers in Broughton cut the cable doing unconsented works extending the site, once again doing what they like with no consequence."

Thinking Maybe just routing cables through a traveller would be the way to go.

A step in the right direction . . .

I admit, I hate pikeys more than mpd hates muzzies.

One of the worst things we have is open immigration between Ireland and UK and some stuid cvnt saying pikeys are a culture.

Well I suppose they are, something you would find in a petrie dish.

No, my favourite thread is the one you pull that unravels womens clothing.

But slagging off the trailer trash on here comes a close second. Thumbs Up

Something I learned a long time ago about the traveler 'community' is..

Never ever be tempted to give them the benefit of the doubt.

They are, to all intents and purposes, outlaws.
