Meh, we're allowed to go to shops that are open.

We're allowed to meet one person from a different household but we've no control over what the rest of the population does. If other people happen to be travelling to the same destination as me then I can't change that.

Maybe it was a coincidence they all amassed at the same point at the same time?

Maybe they all live in the one house?

Quick to judge.

It's a pity when this sort of thing happens. It reflects badly on all of us, instead of just those doing it.

Swings and roundabouts.

Yes, there's a lot of unsocial distancing going on there - a clear breach of guidelines and legislation.

But also there's some proper spittle-flying localism:

Quote:
The visitors, many of whom appeared to know each other, were pictured eating fish & chips and chatting in close quarters, although some appeared to be taking precautions.

...but...

Quote:
No one was adhering to any social distancing whatsoever. They certainly weren’t following any government guidance.

Which is it?

Also...

Quote:
‘Matlock Bath is still closed, no facilities are open.'

...and yet...

Quote:
There were bunches of people brushing up against each other eating ice cream and eating fish and chips.

What, did they bring their own?

Irritating to say the least. I went for a ride on Saturday morning through the Peak (I live next to it so it's local to me) but went out at 6:30am purposefully to avoid the crowds (it was blinking freezing too). I am not surprised it was like that at all . . . the few spoiling it for the many as usual.

To be fair, I don't understand why they so many stopped in the first place, if I was riding through there, I'd carry straight on, I've no intention of queuing for a bag of chips, irrespective of social distancing ! I always thought one of the advantages of biking, was to avoid queues, by being able to filter, so, to then queue to get some chips, kinda defeats the object.

Fish and chips are really good there, I hear. It might not be possible to easily separate the quality of food and drink from the fun of getting there. Hope things get back to normal soon. 80 mile round trips to obscure breweries and usual spring/summer stuff.

This was one of the topics on the Jeremy Vine show today, the bikers interviewed didn't hold back!

IMHO you could substitute the title of this thread - they really did bikers no favours at all. The interviewees were motoring journalist Steve Berry and former LibDem and current MAG chair Lembit Opik. Berry in particular got very aerated, accusing the public of Nimbyism etc, basically 100% defending all the muppets at Matlock Bath etc and saying they were doing absolutely nothing wrong. Absolute grist to the mill for any anti-biker with an axe to grind.

Which is it?

It was both - the second was a quote while the first was a part of the article from the metro.

That's my point. The slightly objective article states there was some concession to the situation and yet to a (presumably local) observer every single person there was flouting the guidance. Typical generalisation and mass prejudice.

Fuck all the virtue signalling at this point.

I gave more of a fuck when this shit was new and it was mandatory to stay at home, but I don't care as much anymore.

Deaths are dropping. Infection rate dropping. Right now, despite what may happen in the near future, the risk isn't as high and services are not overwhelmed (Nightingales are dormant atm).

I was out riding twice this weekend and it was fucking great after 8 weeks of nothing.

Wasn't standing around like a muppet in a carpark with shit loads of other people in close proximity though.

They ran similar story about evil bikers in Helmsley (about dozen well spaced out).
Eventually the police came out and taped off the favoured bike parking area so they parked in the car spaces instead.
I have to drive past later today and would bet the same area will be well dotted with cars but that will be OK,They just need a pantomine villain.
The reports even slipped in 'leather-clad' in case you didn't spot the earlier bad-guy cues, hilarious.

By comparison.
Derbyshire over-run with walkers
https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/news/local-news/dovedale-visitors-coronavirus-lockdown-influx-4141771
- only here to they were forced to park dangerously because the reasonably ample car parks are still closed.
The vitriol should be aimed at the simpletons who think that a splendid plan to stop people coming.

The lesson is that if there's a large enough group the police won't get involved. If that had been four or five bikers, the PCSO's would have stormed in followed by a couple of vans of riot police (source:my paranoid speculation).

The whole point of the lockdown was to slow the infection rate so the hospitals could cope, the result was that the hospitals did not come close to being overwhelmed (source:tiktok videos of dancing Dr's and nurses).
The objective is herd immunity, while isolating the vulnerable. People need to get it and get over it without infecting the old or sick. This virus isn't going to be cured any time soon, and at some point the risk of getting seriously ill (which is very very low) is outweighed by the prospect of spending the rest of your life indoors scared of letters posted through the door because they could be carrying the virus.

I know, so selfish. Meh.
