I'm reasonably confident I have primary raynauds as my fingers can go completely white even when its comparatively mild.

There's been times where I've lost all feeling and strength in my hands and couldn't even do up a jacket zip or undo the d-fasteners on my helmet.

Its not been too much of an issue as I've learned to live with it now and keep my hands and body warm but is it worth getting a formal diagnosis from a GP?

Yes, even if they can't do much now at least you are on the radar if things develop in the future.

I've heard that the condition could disappear of its own accord. My only concern is that having it on my record may preclude me from some roles that I have previously done and may want to return to in future.

Are these roles you'd want to return to even if you could no longer do them effectively or safely because of your condition?

When would you rather find out for sure - now or in the post mortem?

I'd say only if you think you might need some sort of treatment. Otherwise, if you are managing it effectively yourself, it's only of academic interest.

mrs stinkwheel has it quite badly and has been referred to a rheumatologist and tried pretty much all the treatments but decided the side effects were worse than the benefits.

Even put her on sildenafil at one point (viagra), did my street cred no harm when my wife was going to the local dispensing chemists for 48 at a time. They come in boxes of 4 so it was literally a carrier bag full.

Heated grips AND bar muffs are the answer.

How old are you?

It more typically affects younger folk, then fixes itself. I had it pretty bad when I was 19 and 20, my fingers would go all yellowy-white like dead zombie fingers.

To fix it quickly, you can whirl your hand in a big forceful circular motion, causing centrifugal force to push blood back to your hand and fingers. Works a treat!

It cleared up for me around my mid 20s. No more raynauds for me.

If you're young, don't bother going to a doctor yet as it might not look great on your record and it might clear up on its own anyway.

I'm 28,

I think I've had it for about 10 Years, coincidentally when I started commuting on bikes and using vibrating tools at work as part of my apprenticeship. Thinking

As part of the reserves, I would be discharged If I had a formal diagnosis.

To continue in the forces with a condition that creates risk to those you serve alongside is just a cunt move. Would you want to walk in to the shit knowing one of your section may not be able to handle his rifle?

Courage, Discipline, Respect for Others, Integrity, Loyalty and Selfless Commitment....... You are failing on a few of those at a basic level, also good reason for discharge.

Could be a compo claim right there.

It's debilitating and if it was caused by work...

Vibration white finger is a listed industrial injury.

Totally agree, It's a bitter pill to swallow considering I've spent 2 years of my life working on the coldest continent on earth.

It's a frustrating way to go but temper it with this,

If it's already got you some travel and a chance to play with a GPMG, then at least if it does end, you had a good time with it.

This doesn't sound like Reynauds, it sounds like vibration white finger which although related aren't the same.

I would be getting a diagnosis and looking at industrial injury compensation.
