Hi,sure this must have been discussed before but can anyone guide me through the procedure to fix sooty black plugs. I recently fitted 2 new coils and 4 spark plugs and the bike was starting and running great. However on my second run of about 10 miles or so it kept stalling on tic over and just not going as it should. I removed the plugs and they are black sooty. Any advise appreciated. Its a 1979 GS 550

As above, also check plug number is correct. A colder plug will not help.

Have you got cracking blue sparks?
What happens if you leave the fuel tap in PRIme position?
Have you a mouse nest in the air box or a dead one in the exhaust?

Choke is fine and works as should.
I put in Iridium plugs some time ago as that helped with starting, but whatever plugs used they all go sooty dry black.

Have put the air screws at 2 turns out so will see if that has made a difference.
Thinking of buying a carb sync kit do you think that may help.
Fuel tap in any position works fine.
