Hi All,

I've just joined the forum on advice from a friend of mine.
I have a 2009 CBF 1000 and love the bike.
Lately it's taking a little more time than normal for the bike to start and then sometimes it'll start on the first push of the button.
It has been serviced and had new Iridium plugs installed.
When it happens, the engine turns over and doesn't fire and then it might attempt to start and cut out. After 30 or 40 seconds it then starts.
It's a bit confusing as the next time I come back to the bike it could just start first turn
Any advice please

Sounds a bit like it's not getting fuel; are these on carbs? How long is it sitting between being started?

Edit: looks like they're fuel injected. Is the fuel pump audible normally with the ignition on but engine off?

Silly question but are you waiting for the fuel pump to prime before pressing the button?

Does it start fine when hot and take ages cold?

Numerous possibilities. I'm assuming there are no warning lights showing. It starts eventually so nothing catastrophic is likely.

Things I would consider:
1. Plugs. If it was fine before installing the new plugs, then doubt the plugs. I have an inexplicable dislike of iridium plugs.
2. Battery. Stick it on a charger and see if it improves. Particularly if its hard to start cold and easy when hot. Make sure the battery cables are screwed on tight.
3. If it's hard to start when hot, valve clearances.

Thanks for mentioning that. I was worried about starting to sound like a stuck record....

I'd be checking the battery as Robby rightly mentioned, by checking the resting voltage of the battery and the charging status of the battery too.

Only mentioning this as I'm pretty sure mine was having starting issues not long before the first stator gave up the ghost.
