Glad I haven't got kids.

Probably only need another 10-15 years at work and can retire somewhere nice. Where's up and coming and doesn't have 'progressive' ideas?

Ah yes. And possibly Florida?
But I don't know for how long, since the Dems seem to be seeking more power over the individual states, although right now, many are ignoring or refusing Dem attempts to impose upon them. Nice to see Biden uniting the country so well!
I'd wait and see how things go for a couple of years before I moved anywhere in the US. Another thing is a lot of people are moving from the woke states like California due to soaring taxes and other crazy policies of the Dems, so it may be that even the remaining good states become infected.

The infection is definitely there, but I don't know how far it has crept into their institutions.

AFAIK both the Ozzie and Kiwi governments are pretty left-wing and the populous do their best to ignore them. Certainly Canada is fully Woke now they're handing out literal prison sentences for mis-gendering.

Texas was okay but all the Millennials have fled there from the West Coast bringing their stupidity with them. Florida has crocligators which I wouldn't want to be dodging in old age.

I thought the Aussie government was paying the captains of shiploads of assylum seekers cash money to turn round and go back. And if they don't, marooning them on an island

Visiting a Colonial Fort on the coast of Ghana, West Africa.
Bunch of tourists being guided around the place by a Ghanaian curator.
He mentioned the conditions that slaves were kept under as we walked through the place.
A 'black' American cursed the colonial brutality.
The curator was quite clear in explaining the following:
"The colonials never ventured very far into the interior and it was the African locals who traded the slaves with the colonial masters.

When gold was high the traded gold.
When humans were worth more than gold they traded humans.

Everyone was complicit in the slaves trade.

Good History is valuable.

We should all be aware of that."

Quote:
“The assembly included the screening of a video message by Brisbane Boys' College Captain Mason Black about being proactive in stopping incidents of sexual assault and harassment.

“As part of this discussion boys were asked to stand as a symbolic gesture of apology for the behaviours of their gender that have hurt or offended girls and women.

“In retrospect, while well-intended, we recognise that this part of the assembly was inappropriate.”

Apologise for being white; apologise for being male; apologise for being able bodied; apologise for breathing.

It's reminiscent of the whole "apologise for the slave trade" bollox a few years ago. I have no problem with that if a thankyou for also ending the transatlantic slave trade was offered in exchange but anyhoo...

Sins of the Father and all that. Also seen with Extinction Rebellion: "oh well, the carbon footprint of the UK might be pretty good now but during the Industrial Revolution it was much worse!" Reparations in other words, "hair shirts for all" ffs.

IIRC there's a chemical you can add (Acetylcysteine?) to Paracetamol that reduces the chance of liver damage in the event of an overdose. It seemed to be quite a thing years ago. OD on pills, saved by paramedics but now your liver's fucked. The argument from Big Pharma was they couldn't add this chemical as it would admit historical liability for Paracetamol being dangerous all along.

I don't know where I'm going with this but it all seems to revolve around impeding progress for the sake of historical context or maintaining the status quo regardless of any new solutions available. IMHO this is where governments should step in, draw a line and say "from this point forward we'll do things right, previous liabilities will not be entertained" some hope though Sad

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-56638260

Quote:
Actress Thandie Newton has said she is reverting to the original Zimbabwean spelling of her first name, Thandiwe.

The actress has hitherto been known as Thandie, an anglicised version of her name with the "w" absent.

All of Newton's films will be credited with the name Thandiwe (pronounced "tan-DEE-way") Newton in future.

"That's my name. It's always been my name. I'm taking back what's mine,"

How is this even news Laughing

Who, honestly. has stopped her having her name spelt however the hell she liked for the last few decades?!

Quote:
The actress, whose full name is Melanie Thandiwe Newton, said her name was misspelled in the credits to her first film in 1991, Flirting, which co-starred Nicole Kidman and Noah Taylor.

As a result, Thandie Newton became the widely-used spelling of her name and has stuck with the actress for three decades.

So, a typo - a bloody typo - has been oppressing her for decades?!

Wait hang on a second, her name is Melanie?! Surely if Hollywood had wanted to Anglicise her they'd have just called her Mel?! Laughing What absolute horseshit!

Quote:
Newton also told Vogue she welcomed how much representation of ethnic minority groups has improved in the entertainment landscape.

"The thing I'm most grateful for in our business right now is being in the company of others who truly see me. And to not be complicit in the objectification of black people as 'others', which is what happens when you're the only one," she said.

The thing she's most grateful for, in the whole of the entertainment industry, you know with the money flowing from the heavens and the galas and the free designer clothes, free makeup artistry, free cosmetic surgery, free personal trainers and having time to keep yourself in bloody good shape with all your PA's running around taking care of your administrative life, is:
Arrow Some bullshit made up statement that makes absolutely no bloody sense whatsoever Laughing

Yeah, but they really were inclusive.

You had the gays and the straights and the whites and the spades. Literally everyone has AIDS, doesn't get much more inclusive than that.
