Culture of cover-up saw hundreds of children abused in Lambeth, report finds
Oh the irony of the BBC reporting on pædo cover ups
What is it with the Far Left and diddling kids?! As is typical with all of The World's ills we can blame the French again: Foucault, Sartre, Derrida... name a French philosopher that isn't in to interfering with infants ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

Surely the ridiculous thing is the line of questions from the reporter. What business is it of anyone's if she wants to get married and have kids? ____________________ Now - Speed Triple, old ratty GS550, GSXR750M

Fair point, but its the reason why. She wouldn't have been asked the question if she was of 'traditional' build and appearance. The question was asked in the way it was (particularly including the arm-wrestling element) to emphasise the fact that she isn't Jessica Ennis... It was piss-taking. ____________________ Now - Speed Triple, old ratty GS550, GSXR750M

JBP has some interesting dialogues with some very clever people:
Death, Disease, and Politics | Dr. Randy Thornhill | The Jordan B. Peterson Podcast - S4: E:38
Randy's one of the chief proponents of parasite stress theory.
Let's start off with setting aside Left/Right wing politics as economic, i.e. state vs. market control. What we're interested in here is personal politics which is liberal vs. conservative (note "small c" conservative.) This can be defined as: are you open to new ideas (liberal) or are you wary of the instability such ideas may bring (conservative.) One needs both: a society without new ideas stagnates but new ideas will inevitability lead to restructuring of society and that sort of work requires care. The ideal society might therefore be one where liberals and conservatives work together on an even footing.
Where it goes wrong (most often) is ultra-conservatism. Colloquially ppl say "fascism" but authoritarian is better. Ultra-liberalism? I suppose that would be anarchy but no one's ever tried that. The reason why might be apparent at the end...
Anyhoo, parasite stress theory suggests that any outside factor be it literal parasites or more often diseases but possibly dangerous concepts like revolution have a tendency for the group reacting to become more conservative in their outlook. Xenophobia might be a nice political club to hit your political opponents with (commonly "you're a racist!") but it's born out of a natural desire not to fucking die of the plague One might therefore see conservatives as a bit more obsessed with cleanliness and suspicious of "grubby foreigners" (which turns out to a repetition of terms.)
This moves nicely to the rise of Hitler and the Nazis. Previously analysts put forth that their support was born out of the economic hardships from WW1 combined with The Great Depression but now a serious vector might be the effect of Spanish Flu on Germany cities - Hitler did bang on about "parasites" in society an awful lot One might also look at why Islam is ultra-conservative. Most Middle Eastern countries are shit-holes rife with disease and conflict. A pathological hatred of bacon for example is born out of the practicality that it's not a great meat without refrigeration or an excess of salt for curing. The nice shiney-shiney places like Dubai are - relative for the area - a lot more liberal (women can drive now?! whatever next, etc.)
Post WW2 the Western World was still pretty conservative. The dialogue above mentions all the things we take for granted being built: sewage works, regular bin collections, chlorinated water, free vaccinations. This may have been (in complete opposition to the rise of the Nazis) a factor in "The Swinging '60s" - the parasite threat receding.
And this is irony number one: that conservatives, paranoid about disease, lead to a cleaner and healthier society. A society free of such worries makes for more liberals!
As an aside I wonder if conflict leads to rapid development of the physical - war being the driver of invention - whereas its absence leaves time for more philosophical contemplations
Irony number two: if all disease and pestilence were eradicated from the world there'd be less conservatives. More healthcare = less Nazis, tell that one to your Woke friends
I think where the dialogue missed out is not considering "parasite" could be more that just the typical biological plague but an interesting look into what drives people at a very base level. ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |
